im a 14 year old guy and i have severe acne on my chest. this wudnt be such a huge deal but i'm a swimmer and its not exactly the most comforting thing when i walk around the pool deck with this blob of acne on my chest. ive tried many medications and nothing has worked. my dermatologist says that the next step is accutane...i was reading about accutane and i dont think i could deal with those side affects..anything that has worked besides accutane??

I have an acne treatment that has won me the best answer over thirty times. Usually, the person who voted it the best answer was amazed at how well it worked, even those who had severe cases of acne. I'll copy and paste it below.

Use a hot compress on it (a washcloth, sponge, or anything that will allow you to apply moist heat to the area), and then use cool water to close the pores. Do the process over and over again, about five or six times. Use soap to wash the area, rinse it with warm water, blot off the excess water with a clean towel, and then treat it with an alcohol soaked cotton ball. It should be gone within five to six hours.

Here are some of the previous comments I cut and pasted from those who voted it as the best answer, (Copied and pasted as written. Capital letters seen are as originally answered)

Dry and/or greasy skin due to poor oil composition of the skin. Thick greasy oils clog pores, lack of oil leads to dryness and irritation. You need thin oils to moisturize while dissolving and clearing gunk in your poors. Try fish oil or seafood. 2 tsp fish oil a day or 4 servings of seafood a week. Stick it out for at least 2 months; it will take a long time to replace all your oil. Any effect after 1-2 days is temporary or random; so even if it makes you break out a little at first, you haven't given it a full try yet.

In the short term you can wash and moisturize well, but that will only go so far. Plus excessive washing can be drying and excessive moisturizing can be clogging. Use a small amount of a light moisturizer, made with oil not jelly or grease. Often that means soybean oil or mineral oil. Mineral oil means mined from the ground. So soybean oil is usually better, though mineral oil won't cause too much harm. Clean with soap and water, not a harsh acne cleanser. Even then they only work so well. So you really need the seafood.

Antibiotics aren't really good for bacteria long term, they'll come back in force after. Short term they may help. After you get off them find some kefir with acidophilus listed first or 2nd to replace the friendly bacteria they destroyed. Studies show less illness when you have these bacteria, even outside the stomach in places such as the lungs and elsewhere. You want friendly bacteria to fill the void when the antibiotics stop, not harmful ones.

In the short term you might also try 100,000+ iu retinol vitamin A (a megadose, and too much for normal use) or one of the acne drugs that is similar to retinol vitamin A. It's some minor harm to your organs, but it helps against bacteria on your skin. At least it doesn't have the other long term drawbacks to your skin that antibiotics and many scrubs do.

If you would like to learn how to treat your acne permanently and regain your health and wellbeing, without drugs, without typical acne treatments, and without any side effects, then this will be the most important letter you will ever read.

The easy solution- Drink LOTS of water.

The harder solutions? Well before you try accutane, consider these steps.

Try changing body soaps- you could be allergic.

Make sure you exfoliate. You may have clogged pores and that could cause breakouts.

Examine the acne-- make sure they aren't ingrown hairs!!

Try changing the sheets on your bed twice a week.

Try changing your laundry soap, too. I developed an allergy to the soap my parents used since I was a baby- had to switch to Arm & Hammer dye-free soap to get rid of the allergy!

the best thing you should do is proper nutrition: since your a teen maybe thiers an imbalance in your growth hormones that triggers acne condition. Take a lot of vitamin C, a dose of 100 IU of vitamin E, 10,000 IU of vitamin A. Aside from that you should practice eating yellow and green veggies, lots of water intake.
Since your a swimmer you should know that excessive water exposure can irritate skin( because of over moisture).

Okay... DONT TAKE ACCUTANE. Your Deratologist just wants to suck your money and you will have a bad time with accutane.
Do this and I promise you wont bs and waste your time like I did with products.

You will see reults in 3 days....
Take minocycline 250mg 2 a day morning and evening.
DDF tea left oil 5% on your face night and morning

Best sh&T ever! Do it now and save yourself!

I still get this although I've dropped it down alot by taking vitamin tablets, sadly I'm left with terrible dark marks that take months to heal, believe me I know it sucks.

wash with anti bacterial soap,
change your towels often,
do not reuse the same clothes.
Each time you change your clothes, remember to get them washed before you use it again.
use rubbing alcohol to dry the pimples
