Aside from the obvious concerns your question raises - like encouraging people to steal anything at all - I suppose that people don't steal airplanes, tanks, etc., because they lack the skills to operate such a vehicle.
Pretty much any one can get into a car, start it up and drive away. The same can't be said for a plane or tank. It takes skills to operate these vehicles - skills that the average loser thief lackly lacks...

You haven't seen the footage of the time someone did steal a tank? It's hilarious! Tanks and Aircraft are usually guarded by the way. Harder to steal and harder to hide. Sorry you're bored with regular crimes. Try reading the Darwin Award books. They're pretty funny and those criminals are creative!

The idiots who steal cars can barely operate the vehicle.. if these same pieces of crap were to figure out how to fire up a aircraft, let alone position it for take off- the chances of them getting more than a few thousand feet before making a smoking hole in the ground is minimal. Sounds like you have given it some thought- I hate to kill your dreams- so good luck, I'll watch for you on the evening news!

Yeah... and so much more improbable. There is so much more protection around airplanes and tanks that the risk is not worth the improbable prize. Not to mention I would assume that an airplane is alot harder to hide and then flip then would be a simply Toyota Camry or other commonplace vehicle. And a better question would be, why don't people just stop stealing and actually work for their own?

a few reasons - one there are more cars around; two there is less security to cars than planes/tanks etc; three most stolen cars are stolen for other crimes or for joy riding.
Not looking at no 3, if its joy riding its mostly teeneages/younger adults, who are out for a quick high - stealing a car presents them a chance to have their "fun" without having to plan a careful raid for a plane etc.
If its being stolen for another crime, I would think a car parked outside a bank attracts less attraction than a tank.
The number of availability is also important. A stolen car is far less likely to be boticed as gone/stolen in the first our than a tank or a plane.

I think the reason is fairly obvious. Having said that, see the YouTube video below for a video of a police chase involving a stolen tank.

People have stole tanks. It happend in San Diego. You hear more about car thefts because there are not as many tanks and planes as cars. Another problem is thieves are usually stupid and can't fly a plane.

Almost anyone can drive a car/pick-up truck.
But how many people can fly a plane or drive a tank? And where could you hide a plane, other than an airport?

I would think it is easier to sell a stolen car than a tank.
I saw a tank chase on tv once, and it wasn't pretty. It didn't end too well for the criminal.
