You can add a little sugar to it, or an Italian friend of mine adds a teaspoon of baking soda to her sauce to cut the acid.

Yes, you can do this. I would use the entire can of tomato sauce because 15 oz is almost 2 cups. The tomato paste is much thicker than the sauce and when you add water to the paste (as called for in the directions) you would thin it out to about the same consistency as the sauce is already. The taste will be a little different because most tomato sauce has some spices in it (garlic etc..) while tomato paste is straight tomatoes. Enjoy your dinner.

I too find them acidic. I throw some brown sugar in (not white, brown gives a good flavor). My grandma finds many sauces too acidic but can eat my lasagne when I make it with Campbells tomato soup (it's mostly starch and color anyways). Maybe try that?? Good luck!!

NO SUGAR
Sugar does not counteract acidity. To counteract an acid you need an alkaline. If you must reduce the acidity of your tomato sauce add a pinch of baking soda.

You add a little bit of suger to it. And it will knock down the acidity in any tomato products.
I add suger to my spaghetti sauce every time I make it.

I throw in a dash of sugar, I dont measure, maybe a tablespoon for a crockpot full of sause.. Its works really well for taking out the acid "bite" and the sugar will not make it sweet.

Sweeten your sauce with fresh basil, NOT sugar. Sugar isn't so great for you.
