Nothing wrong with barefooting, in fact it's very healthy. There's even an entire website dedicated to parents for barefoot children. Why not let him go barefoot if he wants to?

No you are not the only parent, who will let their kids wear no socks in their sneakers in the Winter time. I know a lot of kids who wears sneakers without socks in the Winter time, and I see kids do this as young as 6 years old. But you should not let him go out barefoot anywhere, except for in the house. If you need to go out anywhere just tell him to put his shoes on his feet, and he can take them off when you return home.

Are you talking just for a quick trip? There are many hazards about attending school w/o any socks on. Especially in the winter when students are changing from boots to shoes. Yes, socks can get wet, but nothing compared to the stench of plain toes on boots!
Ultimately, it's your call.

No. You have to be careful staph infections and other bacteria can grow in sneakers and in many other places. What if just got a cut on his (her) foot? Just show them some pics about what a staph infection could look like and that could keep them from complaining at least for a bit. :) Good Luck.
