I am new to this tax stuff and usually my aunt does them for me, but she is no longer around to do them. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you are claimed as a dependent then you cannot take any education benefits like the tuition and fees deduction, Hope Credit, or Lifetime Learning Credit. Your mother may be able to take these credits.

If you are a dependent but your mother does not claim you, then you can take the Hope Credit or Lifetime Learning Credit for education expenses you paid.

The education credits only reduce taxes you owe, they are not paid to you.

Whoa, people. Let's back up a bit. It's highly unlikely that it's necessary for you to claim tuition as it probably wouldn't save you a penny even if it were a tax deductible expenses. How much did you make and how much tax did you have withheld? Those are the questions to consider.
