Because good old G.W. Bush wanted Saddam and that's all there is to it. It's a false war. Afghanistan isn't on the priority list, funny though because Osama is still on the run, explain that one.

The reason why the United States went to war in Iraq is Ole Saddam failed to live up to the 18 UN resolutions and The UN gave the US the green light for President Bush to go before Congress and get authorization to go in to Iraq and remove Saddam from power just like President
Clinton did in 1998 and he did nothing about it. The USA Has NOT abandoned Afghanistan, because there are at least 20,000 US Troops still there with NATO Forces from other countries!!!

Afghanistan was never abandoned. Most folks don't realize that we can only support a certain size force in Afghanistan without having to open up dedicated supply routes through Pakistan. People tend to think that an infinite amount of supplies can be moved via air, but that is not the case. Major military operations require seaports and good overland supply routes. Sure, we could put more troops on the ground there but not to the extent that we have them elsewhere. The situation in Afghanistan is going about as well as could be expected. A long way from perfect but it isn't feasible to occupy every last square mile of the place.

Iraq is just taking the spot light right now because the media thrives on *bad* news. We have lots of soldiers in Afghanistan... but not as many are getting killed etc. so the news doesnt talk about Afganistan much.

We haven't abandoned Afghanistan. People may have lost interest in that region, but we're still helping that country get back on its feet after years of rule by the Taliban. UN forces are still fighting that ousted regime in the southern provinces along the Pakistani border.

Tactically Mr. Bush tought that he could have an easy victory like the one in Afghanistan in 2001, wich in fact was acomplished.
What was lost was what happened after Sadam fell and the US Tanks rolled into Baghdad.
Talk about an unwanted mess.

Hussein had trained several thousand terrorists and planned to send them over here to make 9/11 a weekly occurrence. Those people are now all dead. BTW, operations in afghanistan continue. It is untrue that the US and the rest of the world abandoned them. Tens of thousands of terrorists have been slaughtered. They won't be harming anyone ever again.

We abandoned Afghanistan? You should let the 82nd Airborne Division know that. They'll be surprised they didn't just deploy to Afghanistan.

Money, Bush and his oil company cronies figured out if you cause a problem in the middle east that the price of oil would increase. There have been huge profits made from the war in Iraq and I think that is the bottom line here.
