I don't believe that he is the son of God or that he rose from the dead. But still, in some ways I consider myself a Christian even if few would because of the first statement. But it seems to me that people believe those things then think their soul's rear is clear while forgetting about the teachings on humanity. We know the cliches and people will claim to believe in them. I mean ideas such as turn the cheek, throwing stones, the prodigal son, the sermon on the mound, etc. Yes, we have all heard them, but how many live them. It was certainly not the crusades. It was not well lived during the inquisition or the witch burning. It is not well lived when a person sees an Innocent child and says that he or she is going to hell because the child is not being raised in the Christian faith. Jesus would have been sickened to know of the things that would be done in his name.
A few quotes:
"Christianity is a good idea. Maybe it will be tried someday." Gandhi.
"Once every hundred years, Jesus of Nazareth meets Jesus of the Christian in a garden among the hills of Lebanon. And they talk long; and each time Jesus of Nazareth goes away saying to Jesus of the Christian, 'My friend, I fear we shall never, never agree.'" Kahlil Gibran, found in his book of aphorisms, "Sand and Foam."
"People fall head over heals for the teacher and miss the message." John Lennon

Well the stuff he supposedly said about treating others as we wish to be treated and not hating people was pretty good, I guess. But pretty much everything attributed to him had been said before. I don't think he's misrepresented by history. Of course I think he's misrepresented by Christians, since they claim he's the son of God and I don't believe in God.

Did He do anything good? Lets see:
1. He healed the sick
2. Cast out demons.
3. Gave sight to the blind.
4. The deaf could now hear.
5. The lame could now walk.
6. Forgave sins of those who wanted forgiveness.
7. And last but not least, defeated death so that those who repent of their sins and trust Him to save them........will do just that: Spend eternity with Him in Heaven.

Considering that most Christians don't live by what he preached anyway (like the part where he says to have nothing to do with those that don't believe, to turn the other cheek, and "judge not lest ye be judged"), Christians do that all the time. They twist their bible to mean what they want it to mean.

I'm not an atheist, I'm Wiccan. However, I do believe that J.C. was a great person( as in human being, not some deity type being) and his philosophies were very good. He was a humanist and feminist. He and Socrates had quite a bit in common, right down to being executed for bucking the system.

Jesus was an unorthodox Jew, by today's standards, but if he were around today preaching about the things that he mentions in the Bible, he'd still be a religious leader... just with not that many followers.

The material covering the life of Jesus is so muddled and twisted that it is difficult to really ascertain what he said. Personally I am not thrilled with what his supposed teaching are. They do not encourage striving for excellence, self sufficiency, or critical thinking.
