I have one and love it. My pain was more shoulder, neck and upper back, but it really helped a lot. It took the pressure off, and I do not wake up with frozen, stiff shoulders anymore. I sleep so much more comfortably now.
My wife loves it, and when she was pregnant the second time it really helped support her tummy, and her lower back felt much better than in the first pregnancy without the topper. She also went through a horrible bout of sciatica after baby #1 (no topper) and that never happened with baby #2. The sciatica could have been from many other reasons, but she was so much more comfortable and supported with the topper, we think it was probably because of the topper.

I am not sure about the memory foam brand ones buy the micro( smaller pattern) egg crate foam mattress topper has changed my life! I got mine for about $30.00 at Kmart and I even pack it to go on vacation.
I can't find a comfortable position without it. Yes it has reduced my lower back pain considerably and I enjoy just relaxing on my bed now too.

The memory foam topper did not help me or my husband but we bought a "foam" mattress. Ithink it is the generic version of the temperpedic. It was 600$ for the king and our lower back problems have been gone since we got the matress. (about 2 years). We bought one for our son and daughter in law - she has scoliosis and her lower back was always hurting- she had just bought an expensive mattress but this foam mattress did the trick for them too. Good luck!

Yes, memory foam might help. It helps with backpain where nerves are involved because unlike other sleep surfaces which have a spring-back force, memory foam is a 'dead' foam, meaning it doesn't push back. With spring mattresses, your nerves are constricted between your own gravity and the force the mattress pushes back against you. which causes pain.
Memory foam also helps with back pain where the cause is not nerve-related because it contours your body and cradles your natural curves. Works for neck pain too.
