My microsoft word crapped out on me, now im stuck using wordpad.

Any free word processors out there that will save the file under the same format as WORD?

Yes, just check ZD Net for a great range. However, the ability to be totally MS Word compatible is hard. If it is a straight vanilla file no extras, for sure, many have the RTF file type but in Office 2003, and especially Office 2007, the compatibility issue will be severe. I hope someone will deliver one that does, but the changes are so different it will be a challenge

in case you're searching for a loose microsoft word option, get openoffice. It has spread sheets, files base, draw, word processor, each little thing that microsoft word and microsoft workplace has and better section is that it truly is loose.

microsoft works word processor. it is free on my new laptop--they want me to buy microsoft office word processor.

do you have works or office?

Google has a documents and spreadsheet program--also free.

Supposedly a free program called Open Office will. I have it, but haven't learned how to use it yet.

Are you sure it is useless?
Do you have the program CD?

Open a Word document
click Help
cl "Detect and Repair"

Have your CDs ready.

I use open office ALL the time. It is great, and in many ways much better.

If you use word, this will be no problem.

I think OpenOffice has the ability to read and write Word (.Doc) files.
