Is it odd for a male, neutered cat to masterbate?

My adult neutered cat puts a piece of fleece blanket in his mouth and starts "humping" it. He only started doing that we adopted a six-month old fixed female kitten as a playmate for him. The blanket came with her.

He's not doing what you think he's doing. He's kneading and using the blanket in place of his mother. My parents had a male cat who did this every night at about the same time. He would drag the blanket throughout the house.

My cat does this every night with his toy stuffed dog and he gets very upset if I don't get to bed at around the same time each night, because he's a creature of habit and he likes to do it in the bed while I'm in bed. We decided the dog had to be called Siggy as we felt the cat may need therapy.

Not at all. Being neutered doesn't necessarily kill the urge but it does prevent the spraying and of course the ability to get any other cat pregnant.

No, cats do all kinds of strange things. My male cat does it with both paws!

odd.....yes, but my cat does it too! one of my cats use to do it so much he would fall over!! I've even woken up by him stradling my leg.....gross!
