If you have the money, spring for the XBR. I've worked in a Sony showroom, and seen both TVs compared side by side. There is a very noticeable difference in picture quality, as long as you have a good signal coming into the sets (very important detail there).

i thought this would be a very hard question to answer since im not a tv person, but after looking at both models on circuitcity, its very clear why the one is more. the resolution and contrast ratios are far higher on the more expensive one, which means it will provide you with a more crisp picture. other then that there really isnt much differnece at all. I just bought a 56" samsung, and its beautiful!! not much more then the ones your looking at either. its worth every second of using it too!! heres the sites for the info that I got it from. good luck!

Plasma television technologies is depending loosely on the fluorescent mild bulb. The show itself includes cells. interior each and each and every cellular 2 glass panels are separated with information from a narrow hollow in which neon-xenon gas is injected and sealed in plasma kind in the course of the generating procedure. The gas is electrically charged at certain periods at the same time as the Plasma set is in use. The charged gas then strikes pink, eco-friendly, and blue phosphors, for this reason arising a television photo. each and each and every team of pink, eco-friendly, and blue phosphors is termed a pixel (image element). besides the actual incontrovertible fact that Plasma television technologies get rid of the will for the cumbersome image tube and electron beam scanning of classic televisions, because it nonetheless employs the burning of phosphors to generate an photo, Plasma televisions nonetheless struggle through from different drawbacks of classic televisions, alongside with warmth technology and show-burn of static images. liquid crystal show television evaluate liquid crystal show televisions, on the different hand, use a distinct technologies. surely, liquid crystal show panels are made up of two layers of clear textile, that are polarized, and are "glued" mutually. between the layers is coated with a particular polymer that holds the guy liquid crystals. cutting-edge is then surpassed by human being crystals, which let the crystals to bypass or block mild to create images. liquid crystal show crystals do not produce their own mild, so an exterior mild source, alongside with florescent bulb is substantial for the photo created with information from the liquid crystal show to come back into sight to the viewer. compared to conventional CRT and Plasma televisions, when you consider that there aren't any phosphors that get rid of darkness from, a lot less skill is favor for operation and the mild source in an liquid crystal show television generates a lot less warmth than a Plasma or classic television. also, because of the nature of liquid crystal show technologies, there is not any radiation emitted from the show itself.

The more expensive one, has a couple of more features, and the color generator is built more durable. Also it uses stronger material on the back of the tv.
