How would a US-China war go down?

Question

Who would help us, who would side with them? What would happen?

DO NOT make any references to George Bush. Lets see if we can actually do this.....

Total economic collapse of each country, and not to mention the US would have a hell of a time in trying to keep Alaska and Hawaii until we could get manufacturing back up in the US. (we do not have enough heavy industry to go to war with China) it would be a long and costly 5 to 7 years. with both countries losing hundreds of thousands of people. I would venture a guess that it would also call up a few nukes (only if China invaded US mainland)

Well, China has a HUGE army, they are already well past 500,000, but with an Army that big come supply issues. That, and all we would have to do with a massed Army is fly some stealths over them and it would be over. The reason we have issues in war today is because we can't tell enemy from civilian anymore. I wouldn't expect a war in China to be any different. The world has seen how best to fight us, and don't think for a second if we were to invade china that they wouldn't do the same, plus, it would be organized chaos, not like the chaos in Iraq. They would not kill their own, just us.

All the above is assuming that noone fires off a nuke. If that happens, then the entire world would be screwed.

It would all depend who start the war first and the reasons.

Let's say the US population become more and more racist and elect a future Hitler/Pol Pot/Saddam president like and start the war with China just because China is an economic threat then I doubt that for such reason a lot of western countries would help you.

The reasons to start the war are all that would matter here. Because both countries have the bomb so deciding with who you'll side would be very important.

Right now it is true that the US would strike first as they have military bases in Japan and South Korea.

The issue of such a war would be desastrous.

How would this start? If for some reason this began, there would be no victory for either side. Look how much trouble you guys are having with Iraq. You couldn't invade Vietnam, you haven't a hardened military in even the slightest sense. YES you have faught in more wars than most countries in the world, but never any opponent worth the effort. China would cane the U.S in all aspects of war. They have the same amount of ground troops as you, they outnumber your civilian population 4:1, and theres no such thing as public outcry in China. If a war began, China's army would quadrouple in size because of forced service and the fact that their male population is almost double that of thier female population. China would have an army of 500,000 within a week, and a weapons manufacturing core like no other to feed it. Their army alone, would be 200,000 people more than the entire population of the U.S. Secondly, China would not just sit back and resort to guerilla tactics like most of their asian counterparts. China has a professional military with training,officers,ranks, and the like. I know your just another gung ho American war freak, but come on! There is absolutely no way for America to beat Iraq let alone China. That is, if they don't declare war on you first (In which case you would be royally F(_)CKED!) Oh wait theres more....... If you decided to engage China on their soil, who would watch over your country...........Who would make your weapons and Ammo (for every man killed since guns have been invented, the shot to kill ratio is about 30:1, so that means that you will need 15billion rounds of ammunition to kill every soldier in the chinese army! If you gave a 30 round clip to every man women and child in the U.S you would still not have enough ammunition to kill every soldier in the chinese Army.) GIVE IT A REST YOU CRAZY AMERICAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Impossible to answer until you tell me just where this war is going to be fought.

You've got to remember one thing. The biggest three factors in a war are logistics, logistics and finally logistics. Think about this, after the Tsunami in Indonesia it wasn't China who was Johnny on the spot. It was the US on the scene in a couple days moving massive amounts of water, food, medicine and comfort items.

I think war will come with China when they attempt to retake Tiawan. America signed a treaty to come to Tiawans defense. It's No secret China is Spending BILLIONS upgrading there Military. If War with China does come I really don't think it's gonna matter who sides with who. With Two Nuclear Powers facing off We might wanna worry more about who's gonna be Left.

Same as any other time China has tried to rise up. Combined western powers would stop any attack cold. China lacks the tech and the military industry to match it to take on the west, might go nuclear depending on leadership conditions.

well from a infantry ground war view point it would be the yalu river all over again. and that aint good.

BUT

the USA is so technically superior that we can deliver a devestaing
1st round blow without a single trooper on the ground..china would
be hard pressed to respond without using nukes...how can you fight
an enemy you can't even see... :)

if nukes are used china would cease to exsist and large portions
of the USA would be in flames...I.E china have poeple in the bahamas
and panama canel zone now...thier missles can reach everywhere...

it would have to be over OIL or taiwan.....
if its oil we may have as many allies as china or even more then them
if its taiwan it maybe just china VS US and taiwan...

needless to say it wont be pertty but the USA would still be
around even though surrounded by nothing rubble.

if the kiloton yield of the war that you are proposing reaches 100 megatons, then all bets are off....at that point we'd have reached global suicide levels. How can a 'total' war between US-China not be nuclear. the US has many thousands more nukes, but the kiloton yield of the exchange would cause global impact winter.....nice try tho.
