*The Bible says that many will not believe in Christ and the Bible because they don't want their love for darkness disturbed.*
I'm sure that was added in to explain why the pagans wouldn't convert. I can't fathom how your God would wait so long to send his 'only son' to set an example on the rest of the world. Doesn't make sense. It also doesn't make sense then, if you think about it, why if you study ancient Egyptian religion there's so many similarities and you could say the same about paganism too. Plus, the fact that the bible was written after Jesus died and there's so many books that were written about Jesus by people who never even met him. Not to mention that only 10% of the Roman population could read and/or write back then, when they were compiling the bible, and scribes had to hand copy each and every version to send to other sects, plus translation differences, plus not all scribes were into this new religion therefore editing on their own because not every religious leader could read and/or write, hence the need for scribes. Now don't forget the political gain of the Romans, who had professed the biggest, baddest religion ever, which scared a lot of people making the poor pagans running for the hills and almost obsolete. And my biggest beef...why does God need a middle man? And you ask why people don't believe in the bible.

Because it is not the word of God, it is the word of some guys thousands of years ago. Not only are its ideals, such as descriptions of the proper ways of beating slaves and children and killing those who work on Sunday, slightly outdated, but quite disturbing. In fact, the only reason so many people like the Bible is that they only read excerpts. If someone were to actually see what these guys who wrote it wanted others to believe, they would certainly find it disgusting as well. Shouldn't people have their own beliefs in religion, not the beliefs of some angry ancient authors?

So, wanting to be a good person automatically makes me a Christians, and NOT wanting to be a Christian makes me a bad person.
Glad the world is so black and white for you.
I give money to charities. I hold doors open for the elderly. I never do favors for friends expecting anything in return. I want to be a good person, and try every day to be better. And yet I don't want to be a Christian. Why do you think that only Christians are good people? Why can't you accept that some people don't believe out of a lack of evidence, or conflicts between what they believe to be good? I want to be a nice person, but I never understood why an all loving God required a blood sacrifice to save us from an eternal damnation, so I didn't buy into it. What about that philosophy makes me dark?

The Bible has plenty of darkness. It takes the human image of an ancient near eastern despot and magnifies it to cosmic proportions and calls that "God"... It says this God commands people to commit genocide. It thinks this God is more interested in people's sexual practices than in the state of their hearts. It says this God will torment people for eternity if they don't follow his rather arbitrary rules. Then it says he'll let us off the hook because he arranged a hit on his own Son. That's your fundamentalist reading of the Bible.
My liberal reading of the Bible is that it's a record of the slow spiritual growth of an extraordinary group of Semitic nomads, who even though they were barbarians, had some deep and beautiful intuitions about the ultimate nature of the universe and the creative power which governs it... and finally their unique religious culture produced Jesus, the high point of human conscience and spiritual truth. God, yes; just not the God of the ancient Hebrews. Jesus, yes; just not the Jesus of the fundamentalists.

Because it is based on what a variety of different men believed to be true in the distant past. But like any story, that doesn't make it true. People can believe what they want. But unless there is verifiable proof, only those who choose to believe, will. Those who prefer proof, and don't see any, won't believe. Some people just need to believe in things greater than themselves, whether it's true or not. That's OK though. What ever makes a person feel happy is fine by me, as long as they don't push their beliefs on me.

Why should I believe in the Bible? There is not a shred of evidence that any of the fantastical claims of the Bible ever happened, nor is there any evidence that there is even a God at all--let alone one who was interested in giving us commands or publishing a book of them. The Bible is a collection of mythologies, letters, and commentaries from people living a nomadic existence in the Stone/Bronze Age, nothing more.
The rest of your post is nonsensical preaching. Good night and good luck.

"In the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, the Noah equivalent, chosen to be spared with his family because he was uniquely righteous, was Abraham's nephew Lot. Two male angels were sent to Sodom to warn Lot to leave the city before the brimstone arrived. Lot hospitably welcomed the angels into his house, whereupon all the men of Sodom gathered around and demanded that Lot should hand the angels over so that they could (what else?) sodomize them: 'Where are the men which came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us, that we may know them' (Genesis 19:5). Yes, 'know' has the Authorized Version's usual euphemistic meaning... Lot's gallantry in refusing the demand suggests that God might have been onto something when he singled him out as the only good man in Sodom. But Lot's halo is tarnished by the terms of his refusal: 'I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof' (Genesis 19:7-8)."
"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully."
-Richard Dawkins, The God Delusion
Lot's tale is but one example that is no longer taken literally by theologians. People who believe in the Bible tend to pick and choose the good parts that are nice and not mention the parts that are blatantly false or immoral.
This book was written by fallible human beings like all other books. It has been translated by countless anonymous people over the centuries. It has some good stories and some terrible ones, but they are definitely far from something that should be believed or admired.
Best Regards,
Zach

The bible has been written and rewritten so many times it is no longer true. It has been changed to suit their needs at that time. The is why they have version on the cover. There are no facts to back up anything.
Also women are treated so badly in it. They have been offered for rape so many time. Lot offered his childern for rape. One woman was raped to death.. Then the guy who turned her over to save his on behind, cut her up in to 12 peices...Why would any sane woman want to follow something that could , say.. ...OK dont do this just take this woman and "abuse" until she is dead.

I only answer to myself. I have a conscience. I don't need to feel that someone else will intervene for me and 'show me the Way'. The Bible is filled with stories some of which have good moral value, but as Truth, I can't accep that.
