I have a treadmill in my basement that I use daily while my toddler plays in the adjacent playroom. My neighbor, who has an infant and toddler, has been hinting that she'd like to use it during the winter when the weather is bad. How can I politely say that I'd rather not?

Well the fact that you use it every day should get you off the hook, UNLESS, she's intending to come over to your house and use it while you keep an eye on her kids. If that's the case, I think she's expecting too much from you. You have your own kid to take care of and your other daily chores. She'd be a big burden to you. You said she's your neighbor, you didn't say friend. And while you don't want to hurt her feelings (which is very nice) you have to be firm and not let her interrupt your daily routine. Just politely tell her your life is too hectic to try and work out a time for her every day to come by.

just politely say what u just said..i'd rather not. I'm pretty sure you could actually be sued if she ended up hurting herself. I am actually surprised that your landlord or ? let's you keep it there as it can ultimately be HIS responsibility for allowing it in to be in a community area in the first place where there may be toddlers or ? near it when you aren't there. You should probably move it to your own area regardless and then it wouldnt' be an issue. More of a hassle, I understand, but in the long run, a better idea.

That's a tough one. But she can buy a good used one for very cheap. If she is hinting just ask like you don't realize that she wants to use the treadmill and never bring up the treadmill when around her. She is no better than you to buy one for herself.

Concrete floors are great for reducing noise. You could try putting some extra carpet under the treadmill, just to be sure. It's not the noise of the motor that will annot them, it's your feet pounding on it!

I would say no on that one. It would be to risky to let her in your home she is already trying get you in to letting her use the treadmil all you need is for her to try to start to borrow more of your things. Besides the time she would want to use the treadmil could be inconvient for you and your family. Just tell her that it wouldn't work out because you dont know when things might come up and mess up her walking schedule. if she incictes you should tell her sorry you thought it over it wouldn't work out.

My Friend let her Sister in- law use hers.
She ended up being the Baby Sitter during the
whole time it was being used, so she couldn't get her
work done.
She had to tell her she couldn't do it anymore,
because she was too busy.

Tell her you checked with your Insurance agent and you would rather stay friends than adversaries in court. Then direct her to a local thrift store.

Unless she comes right out and asks I would let the hints go by.
