My husband is currently in Iraq, has been for 3 months since October 06. Before the announcement of the 20,000 troop increase, my husband was "scheduled" to be home anywhere from this August to October 07. Will the troop increase sffect him in the sense that he may have to stay an extra 6 months or that his tour could be extended? What is the likelihood of this happening? Do I pretty much have to prepare for the worst but hope for the best?

No, I meant I hope it is true that Congress wouldn't allow the extension because they would have to pay him an extra 1,000. We don't care about the money, we would rather be poor and have him home.

You should always hope for the worse, but the military has been really good lately about not extending tours. Most likely he should be coming home when his tour is suppose to end. There is always a chance of extending. But lately they are coming home. the new addition of more troops shouldnt affect this. You should keep in touch with his unit if possible. I hope for the best, and good luck.

It is just not possible to tell right now. I'd like to tell you that there are people who know but the reality is that the people making those calls really don't know that far in advance. They have a plan with the same sort of dates you are talking about, but the decision to extent a unit that is that far out probably will not happen until the summer or maybe even late summer. I know it is hard on both of you as I saw people get put back into the line in 2004 when they already had their gear packed and were all but on an airplane home. Just remember that there are a lot of people that do care.

Well, first off - from one army wife to another - sweetie, NEVER guess what the Army will do. LOL! ;) Thats my first tip. No one can ever really guess. I will say, I find it odd that we are sending more troops in, but no one mentioned that the UK are sending their troops home. So, I look at it as most of our guys will be taking their place - which is sad. No one really mentions this, I cant believe the democrats are not jumping on that news story!
But, the answer you want - no one here on the board can give you. No one can say for sure when he's coming home. <3 But, rest assured, there are others like you - and we are all praying for their safe return!
BTW, the extra 1,000 is not worth it! There are only 2 original guys left in my husbands PLT out of 20. Him and another guy. All the money in the world isent worth it... BUT, I want everyone to know his patriotism is PRICELESS!
~~gottcha on the pay thing~~ ;-)
I wish u the best of luck. I keep my profile and stuff private because of the weirdos on yahoo... lol - but, I'll make it a point to pray for ya. :)

Always prepare for the worst and hope for the best, in any situation. It's hard to tell what's going to happen in the near future over here, but I'd say you have a safe chance of seeing him before Christmas. I myself am prepared for March of 08, but hoping for November of this year.

The increase won't affect him. It will still take an act of congress to extend him past 365 days. If he does get extended, they have to pay him an extra 1k a month. The way the democrats talk, they're not going to approve that.

Just because there may be an increase in troops doesn't mean he will be extended. I'm not saying that he wont be extended. That would depend on what his job is in Iraq.

well it hard to tell. Things been getting bit too harsh around. Lots of violence going on. Not even a navy seal special force operative can handle alone in a gun battle.

Unfortunately, Yes you do. I hope it can be stopped but Bush is so hard nosed that he just doesn't care and he wants this war to continue to the next President so that person will have to decide to remove troops and the Republicans will try to make him look bad:(
