Photoshop Elements 5.0 has a tutorial built in to the program. Click on "Help" in the menu bar and then click on "Tutorials." You will see a list of many things on the left hand side.
I'd suggest that you can skip the stuff about organizing your photos and get back to that later on, but instead, start with "Edit Your Photos." This will startout by telling you how to use "Quick Fix" and this is a good place to start with a complex program like P.E. 5.0. It will accomplish quite a bit of what you ordinarily want to do with a minimum of work and not too steep a learning curve. The two main editting tools in Quick Fix are cropping and red eye removal and this is what you will do quite a bit of the time when you are starting out with the program.
On the right hand side, you will see several "fixes" available and ALL of them offer an "Auto" button. Click the button in each category and just see what it does.
Before you know it, you will be using the sliders yourself and shortly after that, you will naturally progress into the "Full Edit" portion of the program. It's worth it. My sister is a professional graphic artist who uses "Real Photoshop." She said that 5.0 covers about 95% of what she ever wants to do with photos.

Photoshop in any version is indeed a powerful tool and fun to play with. It is very complicated but not as hard as it seems. The best thing to do is to play around with a picture using the drop down menus and playing around. Always save a copy of the picture you changed so you don't lose the original. There are many tutorials that are free online. Just Google Photoshop tutorial. By the way, your version is about 5 or 6 years old.

Photoshop is a tool that was largely intended for graphic professionals and while it is very powerful it does have a steep learning curve. Expect to spend a fair amount of time working with the program and using resources on the internet to learn how to use it.
If you bought version 5 than that would be an old version. I have Photoshop CS which is version 8 and it has already been replaced once and is about to be replaced again. Is it possible that you have Photoshop Elements?

If you have version 5. I don't think you have the full version of PS. I think you have PS Elements. Which is a cut down 'easier' version for home and semi pro users.
It is indeed a very powerful tool. But unfortunately there is so much to learn and so many ways to do things. I really would suggest buying a book and going through it to fully. This will get you started for now and then you will be in a position where by you can ask specific questions and understand the answers

Adobe Photoshop isn't low-fee!!!!! the entire product prices $699 for known and $999 for prolonged. What you're observing is likely the advance fee, or the preparation version, quite than the entire product fee. there is likewise a pair of subscription form determining to purchase recommendations. in case you haven't were given already were given a earlier version of Photoshop it truly is upgradeable, then you definitely definately will might want to favor to pay the entire fee, or take out between the subscription recommendations. Lightroom is not any good for pixel aspect enhancing - this isn't likely a photo editor - it truly is a photo processing gadget that would want to in reality do very difficulty-free pixel aspect enhancing. in case you're in reality a customary guy or lady and in no way a pro, then all you opt for for is Adobe Photoshop factors 11 - it truly is basically $119
