I recently acquired two 6 month old kittens, and they are adapting very well to our environment that already has 3 dogs. My question is why does one of the kittens groom the dogs? She is always licking their heads, and the dogs don't seem to mind one bit.

It's just social behavior. Cats will groom each other or people, too. They're just being friendly.

Some animals that if they are at a young stage they dont think the animals that will normally be enemies think they are ok because they don't know any better. That happened with us and it went both ways. our dog would even pick up the cats and bring it to us, once by the head but thank god my kitten wasnt hurt and licked the dogs nose right after. Its ok as long as the dog doesnt do anything

As long as the dogs don't mind, it's fine. She's just doing her little cat thing and especially since it's a female and she's 6 months old, she could be feeling maternal. They are both old enough to be spayed/neutered.

My cats do that too! It's just a friendly way to show that they are all part of one big happy family.

She likes your dog. If the dog doesn't mind it... don't worry about it.

I guess it's instinct. My younger female cat used to groom my grouchy older male cat...until he got tired of it and whacked her with his paw. :-)

It's like women washing men. They realize the other is dirty and just won't help themselves :)
