i am learning chinese, have a lot of homework in it, and i was hoping that someone could give me as close a translation as they can to this sentence:
中国 古代 将 一个 八度 分为 十二 个 不 完全 相等 的 半音

中国 = China
古代 = ancient times
将 = took
一个 = one unit
八度 = octave
分为 = divide into
十二 个 = twelve units
不 = not
完全 = completely
相等 = equal
的 = preposition
半音 = half note
Together = The ancient chinese divided the octave into twelve irregular (not equally proportioned) half notes.

What is the context of this sentence? W/o any it literally says China ancient times made a octachord into twelve not exactly the same half sounds or to make sense out of it "In ancient China octachords were split into 12 half notes with slightly varying sounds. But Chinese isn't my 2nd language, Spanish is so see if it makes any sense in what you are reading.

i think this has something to do with music, so i translated into some music related things: in ancient china, ppl divide an octave into not-equal half tones
