some people say its dead, like our fingernails, but then i hear a contradiction 2 seconds later saying that its alive, cut the crap, is hair alive or dead???

Sometimes the word "Alive" be used to confuse people...when it really refers to the vitality of the hair ( the shiny healthy look ) in contrary to the limp volumeless hair.

Hair is made of Keratin ( proteins) That's why its so important to eat well in order to have beautiful hair.

Even healthy hair is dead. It may be thick and lustrous, but it contains no living tissue. Tiny cup-shaped pits found all over the scalp, called hair follicles, produce hair.

Think of Coral Reefs or sponges....it's pretty much the same but yet a bit different.

They're not dead cells, they are hardened protein, like hair, that is pushed out of the matrix.

well people who say that hair is alive our lying. Your hair is a filamentous outgrowth of dead cells from the skin.

the roots are alive but everything else is as dead as a doorknob.

dead except at the roots. we use shampoo and conditioner to make it look alive =]

it is dead when u dont take good care of it like for example dying it everyday or perming it every week

it is actually alive though
only things that are alive grow (hair grows longer..)

its alive at the roots, but once it grows away from the roots its dead.
yeah thats kinda confusing lol
