I went to NYC in November 2006 at age 48.

I had a blast. Totaly safe, I stayed in Mahatten for a total of 13 nights, 4 different neighborhoods. I never once felt threatened, even in Harlem.

Think smart, don't carry a lot of stuff you can't afford to lose. Pay attention to your surroundings, and enjoy!

I live in New York, upper Manhattan to be more precise, and I think that New York is one of the safest places in the States. At least I am sure that no jerk is carrying a gun or some such. People might look little bit unfriendly but that is actually more like a uniform code. For my part I find it difficult to cope with that over talkative friendliness you are likely to encounter anywhere else in US. New York is cool, nice, and polite. Middle and downtown Manhattan are very very safe, by the way.

I'm a New Yorker. Don't believe the trash talk. NYC is the same as any other big city and a great place to visit. You're as safe there as anywhere. Just avoid being alone in dark or empty places or in "bad" neighborhoods. Don't flash your money around or take your eyes off your purse in a crowd, though. That goes for any big city.

It thoroughly relies upon on the way you watch your self and the position you flow. i'm a 21yo lady and that i will eire on my own for 5 months, and that i might want to somewhat not have everybody with me. some subway stations let off at abnormal places that would nicely be darkish and un-peopled late at evening, so excursion maximum of the position you're going and how you have become decrease back on your inn in the course of the day so that you recognize what places to maintain away from at evening, or basically take a taxi. wallet chains have a use, get one. p.c..-wallet may be an issue everywhere, however the bigger the city and the smaller your organization, the better likely, so if human beings won't be able to easily grab and run, they probable received't take your stuff. common vacationer regulations, do not save countless earnings a unmarried spot so that you do not lose each and everything in case you do lose something. save an identity and a telephone on you in any respect circumstances, and at the same time as vacationing in distant places, make acquaintances with someone on the subway or so, in order that that you're literally not on my own and out of listening to type of someone. i might want to assert you should be high-quality.

You should be fine, just use common sense, like staying in well-lit areas, not flashing money or credit cards, not making it obvious that you are a tourist (usually it's a dead giveaway when people look around cluelessly all the time). Usually New Yorkers are quite friendly, actually, even though they may not smile at strangers. Try to blend in with the crowd and not stand out, and it'll keep you out of trouble! Have a good visit! :)

I'm a 24 year old female who goes to NYC every day for school. I have never once felt unsafe. I've had a few uncomfortable moments (bums begging for money, that creepy Mariachi band that's always on the subway makes me nervous), but I've learned how to ignore them. If you ever feel utterly unsafe, which I doubt you will, there is bound to be a police officer around. Don't be afraid of NYC.

You will be as safe as you are smart................Just keep in mind that something bad can happen anywhere so it doesnt have to be NYC for something bad to take place. Just as people do in other big cities you will need to do in NYC. Dont go lookin for troubles such as walking alone at day or nite in dangerous seedy areas. Use common sense. If u suspect trouble is lurking get outta there. Good luck

NYC is perfectly safe. There are cops everywhere, and it's been cleaned up a lot since the 1990's.

?!!? Is this a joke? Hhhmm....if you're asking maybe you SHOULD be weary. Just keep a cell on you and stay off back streets late at night. For the most part NYC is pretty safe.
