I remember the first Muslim woman I spoke to after 911. I asked the Muslimah why she believed and she could say nothing more than "the hijab is correct".
By the way, she referred to Bin Laden as "our puppy dog". That was right after 911 mind you...it really shocked me to hear such cultural adoration for the man.
As I learned more about Islam, I realized why she could say notning more than "the hijab is correct". You see, belief in Islam is entirely emotional. Muslims cant tell you "why" they believe. Ask them and see for yourself, I promise you will see my point.
The rituals of Islam help to create a community. This community is given an "enemy" which helps define them. Islam is essentially an entire drama and purpose created for the weak minded. Even moreso however, Islam is a pact or agreement that insecure people make. Men have greater assuance of procuring woman and insecure woman need not feel insecure in their beauty-santisied world.

Psychology 101: You have just admitted to us that you are insecure and weak minded. It is typical for a angry person to see the world through his own shortcomings and ascribe his weaknesses to others to validate his self-hate and feeling of inferiority.

You see, non-Muslims like you have NO idea at all what it is like to be a Muslim. You have NO idea the spiritual pleasure that Muslims obtain when we recite the original literal words of God, i.e. the Arabic text of the holy Quran. You have NO idea at all the efforts and virtues of our acts of worship, i.e. 5 times obligatory prayers from dawn until night, fasting, etc.
You simply have NO idea how blissful it feels to be a Muslim, to practise the last religion of God, unaltered for over 1400 years.
You have NO idea. It's thus understandable that you dont understand.
"The Islamic teachings have left great traditions for equitable and gentle dealings and behavior, and inspire people with
nobility and tolerance. These are human teachings of the highest order and at the same time practicable. These teachings
brought into existence a society in which hard-heartedness and collective oppression and injustice were the least as compared with all other societies preceding it....Islam is replete with gentleness, courtesy, and fraternity."
(H.G. Wells)
"Islam is a religion that is essentially rationalistic in the widest sense of this term considered etymologically and historically....the teachings of the Prophet, the Qur'an has invariably kept its place as the fundamental starting point, and the dogma of unity of God has always been proclaimed therein with a grandeur a majesty, an invariable purity and with a note of sure conviction, which it is hard to find surpassed outside the pale of Islam....A creed so precise, so stripped of all theological complexities and consequently so accessible to the ordinary understanding might be expected to possess and does
indeed possess a marvelous power of winning its way into the consciences of men."
(Edward Montet, 'La Propagande Chretienne et ses Adversaries Musulmans'. Also in T.W. Arnold in 'The Preaching of Islam')
"To you your religion and to me mine" (al-Quran al-Kareem)

I am Muslim and you the non-Muslim is attacking me so who is the insecure one?
Hold on if she said Bin Laden was their puppy dog that means there is no respect for the man at all.
When that woman answered you just count her as stupid.
Why do I believe? I feel a sense of comfort (despite the killings and the bombings) that there is something out there that is greater than me. I believe that Islam is nothing but a name or a title to name a religion. I believe because Islam puts me at ease. I never look at other people because that will only weaken me; yes I am angry about the ones who make a mockery of Islam, yet I am not their mama so I can't ground them or take away their planes. As for the ones who want to kill themselves and call it Jihad - I say let them if they want to be that stupid.
I believe in the tranquil feeling it gives me in my soul, which is the center of my spiritual life. I cannot look at or think for other people I have to do what is right for me.
Let me say again that woman you talked to was only playing a game with you and she has no honest respect for herself. Now I ask you what kind of answer to your question is that?
"Why do you believe?" "The hijab is correct." Please count her as stupid and count Bin Laden as being used. Do I like the guy or feel sorry for him - nah - he's a big man now -should be able to make his own decisions. I wouldn't have done because some tried persuading me. He needs more backbone if you ask me.
Nice chatting with you and take care

Why don't you try and ask me why I believe?
I believe in the Quran and Sunnah, because it has been proven to be the Exact words of ALLAH SWT, religiously and scientifically.
Many scientists have even mentioned how they came to Islam, by how correct it is, and there was no other way to attain the information at the time, unless it was ALLAH SWT'S words. Have you even read Quran ? Whats your problem ?
Maybe she was uneducated about Islam, doesn't mean we all don't know why we believe, and thats something our religion teaches against.

No Self-esteem? Find a tall building in your city my advice
We believe, because we are guided, no matter what our race is. Muslims are Caucasian, Asian, Arab, African, Hispanic all races.
[039:018] Those who listen to the Word [good advice Lâ ilâha illallâh – (none has the right to be worshipped but God) and Islâmic Monotheism] and follow the best thereof (i.e. worship God Alone, repent to Him and avoid Tâghût) those are (the ones) whom God has guided and those are men of understanding.
We believe, "There is deity worth of worship besides God and Muhammad is his messenger"
[041:040] Verily, those who turn away from Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc. by attacking, distorting and denying them) are not hidden from Us. Is he who is cast into the Fire better or he who comes secure on the Day of Resurrection? Do what you will. Verily, He is All-Seer of what you do (this is a severe threat to the disbelievers).
Go take some anti-depressants or something, insulting people only temporarily raises your self-esteem and then it tumbles even further.
