animal control picks up stray cats from the entire city/county they are located and people also bring in stray cats they can catch if they don't keep the cat themself. If you think your cat has been picked up you need to call EVERY DAY to make sure they know you are looking for your cat. Some animal shelters euthanize cats after a few days if the cat is not claimed or adopted. So this is why you must call EVERY DAY.
See my other answer I gave you on how to look for your kitty. I hope you find your cat soon!

If the pound doesn't get them your neighbors might. Some people just dont like stray animals.
I am a cat lover myself, but I have stray cats around my house that crap in my bushes under my windows. I have to say, I am getting rather annoyed and will probably call the pound if they don't go away.

You should consider getting your cat a microchip. Shelters should check every animal that comes in and if they find a chip they will call the company who makes it. The company will give them your info. so they can return your cat to you. If your cat is outside most of the time be sure it gets a regular visit to the vet. Strays can have some nasty diseases so make sure your kitty is current on vaccines, especially rabies.

People usually bring in strays or they send out someone to get a pet if its reported. Pounds don't go after cats because they are too hard to catch so you don't have to worry about your cat.

I think people report the presence of stray cats or take them in to the shelters themselves. Thisis one good reason why you ned to keep your cat indoors and let him out only when you can supervise him. Don't let him roam freely. That's dangerous for cats especially in urban areas. They can get run over by cars, inured by dog or other animals, catch diseases from other animals, and... get mistaken for a stray, nabbed and taken to the pound!

make sure your cat is microchipped, and has a break-away collar with tags on it, including rabies and license tag. Most of the time, if they pick up a stray, it's a dog, since so many cats are outdoor cats. Usually they'll come by if someone reports a lot of stray animals, so make sure you're always on good terms with your neighbors!

People usually have to call it in and theyll go and look for the reported animal. If you're cat has tags it would be fine. Also, if they did take your cat they wouldn't sell it or anything for about a month just in case someone wants to claim it. I dont think they just drive around and pick up animals randomly unless its a really bad problem in your area.

I used to live in a trailer park, with a plethora of cats. We complained bitterly about the animal control people. We came to an agreement with them: have the cat spayed and one ear trimmed as a sign that it had been fixed, and it wouldn't be picked up. Everybody was happy. Even the vet, though he gave us all a special group rate.

The 'Pound' picks up anmals that are walking around freely - if they have regrestered tags on they will usually call u & let u know they found your animal - depends on the city though - other wise they put it up for adoption ,,,, etc.. If you don't want your cat picked up by the pound keep it indoors - or cat proof your yard- it is possible!!!

People that find strays bring them in. SOme shelters will come and take cats on request of people who have seen them in their yard. I believe cats should be indoor only. Not only do you risk letting a shelter get them but I've seen cats shot by heibors, poisoned, killed by cults, tortured and killed by gangs and other cruel people and worse. I saw a story on tv before of a puppy that was thrown into a lit grill. Please keep your cat indoors.
