i am moving from massachussets(future implant) with my girl and we are trying to pick a nice, safe but affordable place to live. i am planning to attend Grad school either @ national university or Laverne University. i think think that Burbank, Glendale and Norwalk are our finalists. we will be visiting these places this summer. i basically want to know if there is a lot for a couple of 23 yeard olds to do? What about Gangs? Weather? How are the people? We are a mixed, down to earth couple and we do not want to live among any bigots. Please let me know of what you know and experienced. Thank You!!!

Please be more specific. Just what type of information are you looking for? Norwalk mainly consists of tract homes built in the late 40's / early 50's that now cost $450.000 or more. The school system could use improvement. It has a large middle to upper middle class Hispanic population, which the City government goes out of its way to placate. (that should get me a couple "thumbs down"). It does have a few gang areas you would be wise to stay away from. All in all it's okay, I guess, but its neighboring cities of La Mirada, and Cerritos are much better.

I know nothing of Norwark, but have lived in both Glendale and Burbank. Both are nice, safe areas and good for young people. If you are into going out and doing dinner or going to bars or shopping, etc, you might want to check out Burbank first. There is a nice area on San Fernando road with lots of apartments and condos, with shops, restaurants and bars. As another poster said, Glendale has a very large Armenian population. If you are Armenian, this is the place for you. If you are not Armenian, Burbank might be the better pick. (Simply because a lot of the restuarants, clubs, etc in Glendale are geared toward Armenians.) However, that said, since Glendale and Burbank are right next to each other, more and more Armenians are moving into Burbank as well.

You might also want to check out Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Echo Park and Hollywood - those areas attract a younger more mixed croud, and rentals tend to be cheaper in those areas. When you come to visit, get a Thomas Guide, and drive around to check out all the areas and see what you like. You might also want to take a peek at Craigslist to get an idea for rental prices, or if you are buying, check out real estate sites. Good luck!

Norwalk is out of the way and ackward to get to freeway - wise.
I think your best bet is Burbank, as Glendale gets very busy and congested. Burbank is nice and spread out and you can find some affordable housing there. Also from the logistic point of view - great to get to.

Norwalk....eww, forget about that place.

Burbank is really safe and really dull. And Glendale has even less to offer though they do have my favorite Armenian/Lebanese restaurant. You should consider Pasadena or one of L.A.'s hipper neighborhoods like Eagle Rock, Silverlake or Los Feliz. There are plently of young people, cool bars and great restaurants there.

I lived in Glendale for 20 years. Exactly what do you want to know. Basically a nice, safe place to live. Rents can really range, so you need to do your research. I recently had to move to the Inland Empire for work, but both my sisters still live there.
