Well, first understand that you have the Holy Ghosts, if you are saved (received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior).
If you don't have the gift of tongues that DOES NOT mean you are not saved, or that something is wrong with you.

Some hindrances may be: unforgiven, other sins.

If you don't have that, then, you just need to ask God to give you the baptism in the Holy Ghost, and believe that He has already given it, even if you don't see or feel anything different, since it is by faith, not sight!
Then, when you think about that, just thank God that you have already got it! Wait, because God wants you to seek the Giver more than the gifts! The gifts of the Holy Spirit are real and great, but remember that the FRUITS are more important (love, peace, joy, etc). If you try to get deeper into the fruits, then you will be prepared for the gifts.

Once you have fully repented and been baptized in Jesus name you will receive the Holy Ghost. It is a promise. Speaking in tongues is the only initial evidence of receiving the Holy Ghost. You won't always weep when you pray. Depending on the spirit, you may weep, dance, shout, jump, or simply be still and hear the still small voice of the Lord. You must abide in the presence and will of the God.
You cannot make God give you the Holy Ghost. It is a gift you get when he is ready. Continue to seek after his presence, and Thank Him for his gift that you will receive. Don't seek after tongues, just seek HIM. The Holy Ghost will come in God's time.

Speaking in tongues is NOT "Receiving the Holy Spirit" Do not be fooled!!! If you have prayed to receive then you have! Anyone with Ability to understand God's Word has the HS. I had a friend once from an obscure tribe in Africa. He knew a language that not many people know. When he walked into a Pentecostal church. They were jumping up and down and talking in his native language!!! They were praising Satan! God is not a God of Chaos. If people are to "Speak in tongues" they are to have translators and speak one at a time.

Pentacostals will tell you that THE sign of the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues. the Bible never says it, Read 1 Cor 12, 13, 14 and 15 and see that tongues is NOT a gift every believer recieves and not even an important one.

Pentacostals say this so those who do it all the time appear "more important" to God than you. Don't fall for it. Accept the Holy Spirit and however He wants to move in you.

Believe it or not, what you are seeking is myth, rounded off with deliberate confusion. You already have the "Holy Ghost," or you would be dead.

Don't worry about speaking in tongues, or the other, even more ridiculous attribute, understanding someone who does, because it's all made up crap.

The myth goes that one person will speak in tongue, and another will interpret what is said, and what is said is "prophetic." It's supposedly the way that God speaks to us. Believing that means that you believe that God can't speak in a language that we are familiar with. That's the part that should be a dead give away. Of course God can speak in your native tongue.

Learn how to open you mind, so that when God does speak to you, you can hear it.

Regards,

Chris

According to Acts 2:8 tongues is just languages spoken by people who have not studied those languages. Besides they have been silenced according to 1Corinthians 13.

Read 1 Corinthians chapters 12, 13 14 and you will notice that what is done today does not follow the guidelines of the New Testament. There are merely a normal psychological phenomena and not supernatural at all.

i am an apostolic pentecostal. i answered your other question on the same subject. please read your other question.

there are many who dont understand what you are going thru or what we believe. i know. i have the same problem. how long have you gone? i assume then if you are baptized you are baptized in Jesus name? just keep seeking and he will fill you. dont get discouraged. that is satan telling you that. believe me. a lot of people say it is easy, yeah it is once you get filled. however they all know it took some time and a while for them as well. you will be surprised that a lot of people have trouble. so many other beliefs dont believe in it like we do either. dont let satan discourage you though. i dont know what you do or what not. do you go up front when they ask for people to go. do you openly praise God and worship God out loud. and just let praises come out of your mouth. do you care what people think or are you not embarresed and dont care. have you fully forgiven everyone, maybe need to pray that God will take some unbelief out of you. maybe you have some unbelief still. our pastor took i think 6 to 9 months after he was baptized in Jesus name before he was filled. he felt the same way but cont to go anyways. he said he would just run around the church and did not care what people thought. he finally was filled in his own house on his couch just praising God and worshiping God and fully submitting himself. my wife it took 4 months. some get it before they are baptized and others as soon as they are baptized. read my other answere though as well as you can email me anytime.

the Holy Ghost is also a sign to those who dont believe. and there have been many cases were a child or someone was filled with the Holy Ghost when a visitor was present who new the language that person was speaking. there was a case were 2 men went to a church to show that speaking in tongues was false and fake. they both spoke perfect french. the same time a 4 yr old was filled with the Holy Ghost and spoke perfect french. the men asked the pastore and the parents if she was taken any langueges they said none at all. they then said because she was speaking perfect french praising God. it happens even today. it is not stopped like some will claim. for it is for all that God calls. some say the seizing part happened and that it was just for the day of pentecost. however later in acts which was 40 yrs later they still did it. just like we do now. just like healings are happening in Jesus name. like aids are being fully healed.

Just because you haven't spoken in tongues doesn't mean you don't have the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives different gifts to everyone, and you probably do not have the gift of tongues. I personally have never heard of anyone in real life speaking in tongues, so don't be discourages. The Spirit has given you many gifts, and if you pray to God, He will help you to discover them.

Good luck!

did you ask? how do you know He's not already there? not everyone actually FEELS something. Once you get saved and baptized/baptized inThe Spirit you recieve him.

1) believe that God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) is the only true and living God
2) believe that Jesus is the Son of God and the only way to God

Try this prayer:

"Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I thank you for dying for me so that I may know you. Lord cleanse me, and wash me with your Holy Spirit. Holy Ghost come into my heart, as I give my spirit, my soul, my life to you O Lord. In the name of Jesus, Amen"
