That depends on what your theater uses. If it's really salty and very very yellow it's coconut oil (it's also the only one that is very evenly mixed through all the popcorn). If it's greasy and kinda flavourless then it's probably just canola oil or something (they just call is Becel topping at the theater I go to). If it's real butter they probably will advertise that that's what it is (and charge extra), it's also greasy but with lots of flavour and only a bit salty (yummy!). Any butter melted and poured over it will be like that maybe add some extra salt. Hmmm, are you one of those guys who doesn't know that margerine is not butter (like my boyfriend)?

That stuff isn't butter. It's oil with artificial butter flavoring and a lot of dye. Just buy a good quality butter like Kerrygold which is already naturally yellow unlike most butter (sold in the U.S., anyhow) and melt some over low heat. Add some oil if you want to mimic the texture.

It's really bad for you.

Orville redenbacher makes a butter oil that is similar. Look for it for it by popcorn.
