The people who want us to withdraw from Iraq (or using the more recent PC term: "redeploy") state that we will become embroiled in a civil war, that more soldiers will be lost, that the cause for the war was unjust, that it was based on lies and deception, that it's costing taxpayers too much money, that there are other more pressing issues right now, that we've seen no war reparations (oil money). While it is clear that the war has taken longer, has cost more money and lives and has not gone according to plan - this doesn't mean that the solution is simply to pull out.

The obvious reason to stay is precisely one of the reasons I just stated - civil war. Iraq has made some clear progress over the past three years, including the drafting of a constitution and holding a series of democratic elections. Their military and police have also been successfully training and gradually taking more and more responsibility for their own country's self-defense. These are positive and hopeful signs. To simply withdraw will almost certainly plunge the country into a civil war between the three political factions and will leave Iraq vulnerable to invaders such as those from Syria or Iran. This would be catastrophic because of the lack of democracy and tolerance of those nations. It would make peace in the middle-east much harder and would endanger both our allies in the area (Saudi Arabia and Israel to mention two) as well as ourselves.

Perhaps the greatest reason to stay and finish the job is that it is the compassionate thing to do. The Iraqi people, including families, women, children, businesses all deserve a chance and hope to rebuild their lives. A life free from religious and political oppressors. At present, there is a slim chance that this will happen if we pull out.

Now, could the war be executed more efficiently then it has been? Certainly! And with the appointment of Gates, replacing Rumsfeld, the President has taken a good first step - to get fresh blood and fresh ideas on task.

I haven't always agreed with Bush on many issues, but I do on this one. It's in everyone's best interest to finish this thing correctly and then bring our troops home.

Everyone wants to withdrawl because of all the americans dieing there, I think that we shouldent just pull out of Iraq right now because it would leave Iraq in a cival war with all the bombings there and dont really have a real government.

People want to withdraw from Iraq because they are short sighted.
