It is not too old but that doesn't mean your mare should be bred. As others have said the mare needs to be seen by a vet prior to breeding, and she may require more checkups throughout the year. Age isn't the only factor to consider. General health, reproductive health AND reproductive history all need to be factored in before deciding to breed any mare, but an elder mare especially.

If the mare has had foals in the past and is in good health then there should not be a problem. However if your mare has never foaled you may want to seek the advice of a veterinarian. It would also be wise to have a veterinarian inspect you mare before you breed her just to make sure she is 100% healthy. We have had success breeding older mares but we have had disappointments as well. It is best to take the risk into consideration and make an educated decision.

My mare lost her ability to breed at 18, you should try anyways, as many studs have a live foal guarantee, if she does not get pregnant then yes, she is too old.

This is something you need to take up with your veterinarian. He'll conduct a thorough exam and let you know what he thinks.
If your mare is healthy, sound and is still cycling, it may be possible for her to conceive and carry a foal to term. Somethingroyal, dam of Secretariat, gave birth to her last foal in 1977 when she was 25 years old.

I think she is getting too old to breed. I would think that this is her last baby she should have.
WARNING: She might die before the foal is born and might loose both. If she is in good condition than thats fine to breed. Just be Beware for anything wrong.
