Could be part of the reason he was in the shelter. You need to work on changing his behavior. He needs to have more attention. The crate may remind him of the shelter, where he was "left" by his other owner, and he now fears you will abandon him. Try putting the crate where he can see you at night. He will be more secure if he feels he is with his "pack" as dogs are pack animals. Good luck.

When we got our dog the shelter told us that dogs are social creatures and get very nervous (epsecially in a new envoirnment) which can lead to barking and whining all night long. The recomended putting the crate/kennel/bed in the room with us until the dog adjusted to his new surroundings then slowly change into where you want him to sleep.
We tried keeping our dog in the spare bedroom at night but the whining was keeping everyone up. So we moved our dog's crate into our room and thankfully we didn't hear a peep and we all managed to get some sleep!

I have a 9 week old Boston and I put her in the crate at night and I put a blanket over it and she does just fine. I do leave the back of the cage open so she has plenty of air. Put a something comfortable in it so it will sleep and maybe a toy so if it gets bored.

I think you should ask your vet if the dog could be clausterfobic (how ever it is spelled). or maybe that it just don't like being cooped up in a cage that long. without some socialization. of course if the dog is not house broke then he would have to be in there at night but if he IS house broke then try pinning him in a room with NO carpet at night to see if it is really the cage he doesn't like. I wish you luck *smiles*

Keep up with the crate. It shouldn't take long for him to realize that you are not going to let him out.
Keep him as active as possible in the daytime. Possibly take him for a long walk just before he gets put to bed.The walk will make sure that he has gotten his bathroom needs out of the way and it should also make him tired.

actually i be attentive to how stressful it is to place down a canines .. i watched my early life canines die some months in the past and it exchange into heart wrenching. he's being selfish because of the fact he doesnt % to verify her bypass. she has been an element of his life for a mutually as . I actually think of sooner or later you ought to act such as you permit her outdoors permit your mom and you're taking her to get positioned down than once you come again homestead purely act like she died and ask to have her returned and bury her ... its going to be very stressful to achieve this yet its a large step which you adult males will try this .. she doesnt should go through or have her cremated and supply your pop the ashes and that way he will have Pumpkin consistently.

well when we got our dog when he was 8 months, he cryed all night for his sisters bors mom & dad but after like a month he got used to it. we also put our dog in a pen so that he could have room to walk and have room to move. we also gave him bones and food & water in the pen (& cage) because it will calm him down. he only barks in his cage because he wants compony & is lonley. leave a light on downstairs for him but make sure the lights not too bright!!! o & give him stuffed animals galoor!! it makes him feel not soo lonley!!! hope ur puppy will get used to this soon!! o & this helps cause our dog is a terrier too so they tend to bark!! my dog is barking rite now cause he dosent like to be allown. hope this helps!!

He has probably not been in a crate before and it making him nervous, sense he came from shelter, can't say how he lived, maybe he slept with former owners or close to them. He wants attention.

first off you dog was never crate trained.
second. keep the dog awake all day. it will be a big chore, but keep at it.
he is still a puppy and terriers tend to be barkers any way.
