What Do Mormons Believe:
The Mormon church uses two sources as its primary authorities: the Book of Mormon and the Bible. The Doctrine and Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price are also viewed as divinely authoritative. The Christian church uses the Holy Bible alone as its authority from God. Joseph Smith is not recognized as a prophet.
What Do Mormons Believe: The Nature of God
The Mormon church sees God as the Supreme Being of the universe. However, He gradually acquired that position over a long period of time by living a perfect and righteous life. God the Father has a body (flesh and bones). The Christian church proclaims God as eternally and infinitely supreme. He is the same today as always. He is a spirit Being.
What Do Mormons Believe: The Nature of Man
The Mormon church teaches that humans exist as spirit beings before their birth. At physical birth, bodies are given to these spirits. They are also given an opportunity for free-will choice. The physical world represents a period of probation. The status of a person in the afterlife is determined by the way that person lived their life on Earth. If the person lived by a satisfactory standard, (including the fulfillment of Mormon temple obligations) that person has the potential to become a god in the after-life. They can also produce "spirit children" to populate a world of his own (like God did with the earth). The Christian church holds that humans do not exist as spirits prior to being born into the world. Humans cannot attain godhood or populate other worlds with "spirit children."
What Do Mormons Believe: The Nature of Jesus Christ
The Mormon church views Jesus and Satan as spirit brothers and sons of God. God put forth His plan of salvation for the world, and Satan proposed his own plan. Jesus accepted the Father's plan and offered to implement it as the Savior. The Father chose Jesus, and the spirit of Jesus was given a body through the virgin Mary. He was crucified on a Roman cross, and rose from the dead three days later to establish His deity. The character and life of Jesus is attainable by anyone who performs at such a righteous level. The Christian church teaches that Jesus Christ has existed eternally as the Son of God, the second "person" of the Trinity. Jesus took on human flesh about 2000 years ago and was born into the world through the virgin Mary. He was crucified on a Roman cross for our sins, and rose from the dead three days later to establish His deity.
What Do Mormons Believe: How do we Achieve Salvation
The Mormon church holds that Jesus Christ overcame physical death and guaranteed physical resurrection to all mankind. However, spiritual death can only be avoided through personal obedience of God's commandments. Forgiveness of sins requires faith, repentance and baptism by an approved Mormon priest. The practice of baptism for the dead is an extension of this belief, in which Mormons are baptized in proxy for those who have died without proper baptism. The Christian church teaches that we are unable to live a life righteous enough to meet God's perfectly holy standard. Therefore, we establish a relationship with God by faith in the work of Christ on the cross, not by our own works. Baptism and good deeds are acts of obedience to God, but not the means for gaining eternal salvation.
What Do Mormons Believe: Life After Death
The Mormon church maintains that although there is temporary punishment for those that are most wicked, Jesus Christ will establish a new kingdom that will consist of three levels: the celestial kingdom, the terrestrial kingdom, and the telestial kingdom. The Christian church holds that there are only two possible fates after death, heaven or hell. These locations are final, both physically and spiritually.

Mormons believe in God the Father,His son Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. They believe the Bible to be word of God but they also believe that there are many teachings that were lost as the Bible went through different translations. They believe in The Book of Mormon,is a sacred book to them because it contains a lot of the missing teachings.Contrary to popular opinion, mormons or Latter Day Saints are as Christian as any denomination, I looked into them and found out that most of the things that are said against them come from ignorance. The fact that they practiced polygamy at one time has been held against them but the truth is that not everyone was involved in this only those who could financially afford to,they did it because there were more women than men and the women needed financial support and protection and it wasn't something that was easy for the men to do specially if they already had a wife.Once polygamy became illegal the practice stopped and has been so to this day. They put strong emphasis on obedience to the teachings of God which makes them a bit overzelous but they are some of the best people I've ever met.

they believe in there own book that it is the word of God. and that the Bible is the Word of God as long as it is translated correctly. however they just proved the Bible is accurate still today. so mormons think God lies for God said his word will not change. they believe they will become a god one day. were as the Bible says there is only One God and that God knows no other gods and said there will be no other gods. they believe in a temple that only those of there church can go into. the Bible and temples in the Bible were for everyone. old test they were for everyone but those with a deformity. new test. Jesus said the temple is for everyone. not to mention now we ourselves are Gods temple. they learn some crazy stuff in the temple. that most people leave because of it. they learn like a secret handshake. and a new name and were special gormets. i am not judging them however if you believe God created this earth and is powerfull but yet he cant keep his words the same like he said then why even believe in God?
as i said if you show them something that goes against what they believe most will tell you that the Bible is mistranslated. however as i stated. they just proved it is not.
as far as us mistranslating it i understand it. we have some who baptize in the name of the Father Son and Holy Ghost and others in Jesus name. some claim both are the same others one or the other. but the Bible says the same thing in it. it is how people take it not that it is mistranslated from being written over and over again.
if they new how it was translated they would know why it has been kept the same.
also the mormon doctrine has changed many times. even smiths testimony changed. first one was that he was like 14 or something and saw both God and Jesus then later he was like 16 and only saw Jesus then later he was like 12 i think or whatever there final say was that he saw both again. plus there doctrine has changed some too.
also the Bible talks about God being a Spirit and that no man can see him. hmm go figure. however this of course is a mistranslation to justify that smith really did see God.

W believe that Jesus Christ was the son of God and the Savior of mankind. We believe that he died on the cross for us and that through him we are saved. We believe in the Bible. We believe in living life through Christ's example of loving one another and not judging one another. We don't drink alcohol, watch movies that are innapropriate, and we beleive in keeping the sabbath day holy by spending it with our family and not shopping on that day. The best place to go is www.LDS.org That is where the information is accurate. Most people here do not know what they are talking about and make silly stuff up.

they believe that after ascension Jesus came and preached in the new world, America (thus Latter Day Saints). These things were taught to the natives (Indians) and John Smith (their leader) interpretted these things and documented them. he was unlearned, and therefore his understanding was attributed to being carried away by the spirit. They're core beliefs are: preparation for armegeddon by storing food (they save lots of canned foods), marriages forever that last through to heaven, that you can be baptized for a person who has died so that they can have the chance to go to heaven.

Wow. Big Question. Where to begin...............
Mormonism was founded in the late 1700's/early 1800's by Joseph Smith who claimed that God and Jesus both came down out of heaven and gave him some golden plates with writing on them in another language that needed to translated. (In his own personal writings he admits to being jacked up on Paote, a mexican drug) These writings have been put into what we now call The Book of Mormon. Smith's teaching basically gave free license to take as many wife's as one would want and also changed the Bible teaching of who Jesus is. You may see many mormons walking around with a King James Bible in their hands, but after joining the Latter Day Saints group you won't see that book much longer as the life will be engrained with the Book of Mormon. Also, a few changes were made to their version of the King James Bible, opening the door to move their believers into the teaching of the Book of Mormon.
One major change is in Genesis Chap 3 where the serpent is tempting Eve to eat the fruit from the tree. the actually King James and many other versions (NIV, NRSV) read....v. 4 "You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. 5 "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
The Mormans have changed the capital G "GOD" to "a god" opening the door to the subject of there being many gods.
So, teaching from the Book of Mormon, the LDS would teach that if you follow their ways and do what they tell you to do, you too, could become a god and have your own planet with goddesses and god-like children. Kind of kooky.
Christianity is based on faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of mankind. Jesus was the promised messiah and king prophesied about throughout the Old Testament and the New Testament is the explaination and revelation of His coming and that He will come again.
We put our faith in Jesus Christ that He died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead to cover our sins forever and that we might also overcome sin and death. He will forgive us for our sins and bring us into new life in Christ. We leave our old life of sin behind and walk on in newness of life in Christ.
John 14.6 "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father except by me."
Romans 10.9-11 "9 If you use your mouth to say, "Jesus is Lord," and if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. 10 We believe with our hearts, and so we are made right with God. And we use our mouths to say that we believe, and so we are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be disappointed."
Hope that helps.

Jesus and the devil are brothers
God has many wives of whom he has "spirit babies" the good ones are born white babies, the "bad" ones are born black(colored) babies.
man can become god of his own universe
you should only marry a fellow mormon, even to the point that if you don't, and it doesn't work out, your local mormon church will quickly and quietly relocate you away from your spouse.
Jesus is NOT God.
it goes on and on.

Please go to www.lds.org and ignore most of the other answers. The person who claimed Joseph Smith was using peyote didn't even spell it right. As usual, the best place to get answers is to go to active Mormons, thank you.
