We were in contact with the vet. I induced vomiting within probably five minutes as per vet instruction. Everybody is snoozing now because (I hope) of the trauma of syringing the peroxide and general human and animal trauma. I just feel horrible and want to know when I can stop beating myself up with worry and quilt.

You can stop doing that now. But easier said than done.

It sounds like you did the right thing and contacted a vet. If the vet wanted to see the animal then I would do that even if he is better.

As far as the guilt, just remember you did the right thing and your beloved pet is going to be OK. Sounds like you have learned a valuable lesson.

Love your pet to pieces like I know you will.

Doggie proof your home. Then check it again. Unless you deliberately gave the pill to the dog, accidents like that can happen but you did the right thing.
Once your dog is back to normal ask him to forgive you and if he does, leave the quilt behind and treat it as a learning experience. You have now learned to be more careful.
And don't worry, dogs are the most forgiving creatures on earth.

The best thing you can do (in my experience) to make yourself feel better right now is to go through your entire house and make sure it is dog proof. My Lab mix ate 17 Rimadyl tablets. All because the bottle was left on the counter when we went to work. She spent the night at the ER vet and then three days at our vet. We ALMOST lost her. Then my little JRT ate one of my Lab's Clomicalm (med for separation anxiety) when the Lab spit it on the floor. The Lab mix is 3 times the size of my JRT mix. I went through the same thing....poison hotline, vet, hydrogen peroxide, vomit, guilt. It made me feel better to go through my entire house and make sure there was absolutely NOTHING my dogs could find.
