Our 13 week old pup is normally calm and playful. But when coming home from a walk, usually within view of the house, he goes a little crazy, chewing and tugging on the leash, jumping up on us, nipping pant legs, growling etc...he will do this all the way to the front door. It doesn't matter if it was a short or long walk.

I should clarify we live in a condo. He comes inside the building willingly and sometimes makes it clear he's done walking and is ready to go home. It's when we get into the building and towards the elevator he goes a little nuts. The elevator opens and he walks on willingly, sits pretty and waits for the doors to open. we walk out and he starts all over all the way down the hall.

Your puppy needs to be vaccinated before you should be taking him outside for walks or else he can get really sick and die. This can't happen until he is around 10 weeks old. A puppy never needs to be "disciplined". If it does something naughty, a stern "No" should put and end to it followed up with standing tall and tense and walking towards him slowly and if not, simply remove whatever he is being naughty with so he can't get it. Playing tug does not make a puppy aggressive, but i am wondering how you are playing tug with such a young dog... Their teeth are very sensitive and a game of tug with an 8 week old puppy shouldn't involve any actual tugging. If your puppy nips, you just yelp in a squeaky tone like "eeeeeeee" and then just turn your back on the puppy and ignore. Don't forget that you must ALWAYS win the games you play. At the end, you get to keep the toy. I find that frequently standing over my puppy mid play session until he displays his belly also reinforces that i am in charge even though i am letting him interact with me. If you want your puppy to be interested in different toys, play with them yourself! Ignore the dog and play with them on the floor and pretend to be very interested. Your puppy will soon be itching to have a go. My puppy didn't care for balls so i started rolling one along the floor and ignoring the puppy and it took a few days but now he loves them. Other peoples toys are always more fun.

It sounds like he is enjoying the walk and doesn't want to go back inside. You have to stop this behavior though. You don't say what kind of dog it is but this will not be easy to control once he gets bigger.

I have experienced a similar thing...and my guess would probably be that your puppy doesn't want to go home, and is simply enjoying the walk to much. So when your house is in sight... he/she fights to stay away. [just a theory]

Sounds like there is something at home he does not like. Or he wants to stay outside. Try giving him more out side time.
