what a veterinarian is?

I'm sorry to sound rude, but geez! The number of health/injury related questions! I am tired of typing "take your dog to a vet"....Anyone else?

I can understand when you've already contacted the vet and are in waiting only on here hoping someone else has been through what you're going through, but the rest?

AMEN! I am so sick of seeing posts like "my dogs not walking, what should I do?" or "my dog got hurt and won't stop bleeding, what can i do to help" You would think it would be common sense to call a vet at the very least instead of asking strangers on the internet. Unfortunately, common sense isn't very common is it?

But KJ,
YA is full of professionals! People here know more than your average vet! Plus, we are sooooo much less expensive!

Why pay money when you can get such good advise from here. I have seen such intelligent answers to whelping questions that say "put them in a dark room and let them do what is natural to them." When the asker stated that one puppy already died after being stuck for 3 hours while being delivered.

I loved the winner who asked about the cost of a c-section for a Shih Tzu that got pregnant by one of three potential dogs, golden retriever, husky or small mutt, and got mad because "Everyone else had 2 cents about how I should get her an abortion."

Or still my favorite, treat 4 week old puppies with Sevan dust for fleas!

Many people don't want to pay the vet if there is a cheaper way to go. They don't think that there animals are worth spending the money to make sure they are healthy. After all, "It's only a dog!"

Why would they want to spend money on their dog. What if it is nothing and they just wasted their money. You know how many people on YA have a neighbor or family member that is a vet so that means they are qualified to give great answers. I really like the people that say they can not afford a vet, I was under the impression that was one of the things to consider before you get a dog. I guess I am wrong . I am glad that I have YA to rely on in case of an emergency.

I do not understand why people even take the time to ask questions on here when it is obvious that they dog needs to go to the vet. I do not mean to sound cliche, but in some cases those few minutes can be the difference between life and death.

Yep, if you have any concerns about an animal being ill/injured then your first step should be a vet.

Also, if you can't afford a routine vet trip then you probably should not have an animal. Injuries and illness do come up from time to time and may be more expensive to treat, but in that case most veterinarians will make payment arrangements with you.

They're cheap and want a home remedy and a diagnosis. First sign of sickness, I'm calling my vet. Plain and simple. Money or no money, my dog(s) will go and be treated, even if that means paying off that discover card for the next year! Your not rude, people are just stupid and it's up to us to reinforce that by saying "get to a vet". Der. =)

some if the problems can only be helped by a vet. I would be truly stress to say don't worry everything will be fine, or there is not really a problelm and find out the dog is deathly ill.

Yeah, I know how you feel. 99% of the time that is the right answer. I guess people just don't want to shell out the money to go to a vet, or they don't think they have time, or something like that.

LOL - I agree. We are not the professionals here... We cannot diagnose what is going on just from what somebody types on their computer... If somebody thinks something is wrong the best thing to ALWAYS do is to simply pick up the phone and call the vet!!! :o)

LMAO!!!
Isn't AWFUL???
They either sit at the keyboard while the animal is spurting blood all over the ceiling or call an ambulance for a stubbed toe!
LOL
I keep trying to tell myself that they are just ML members & the dog is probably better off dead.

I adore the hundreds of "dry/wet nose" stuff.....these people stopped learning when they were *5*yo??

sigh........funny how they struggle so hard to REMAIN ignorant, isn't it?
