I'm sick of the same old colors in my house. I know. There's so many shades of each color and techniques we can use to distress them or whatever. But the bottom line is there's still just the same basic colors. Anyone else ever think that besides me?

You can resolve the issue of too few paint colors all on your own and with little expense by experimentation.

For instance, I've never liked blue paint colors because they were either too brilliant or just too darned "blue". By taking a very pale blue and adding a little green (very little), I now had what I call a Victorian Blue. A very soft "off shade" of blue that is soothing and very appealing. I have painted our master bedroom in this color and everyone has asked where I got "that paint color". It's absolutely striking.

Beef up or tone down colors by adding other colors or even white or black to create something unique.

Begin with your favorite decorating color and experiment with a simple pint of paint and begin adding bottled craft paint to it.
This is a very inexpensive way to experiment.

Once you come up with a color you really like and want an entire gallon of it, purchase a pint of the craft paint color you used and repeat the process. Write down just how much you wound up using so you can create further gallons if necessary.

If you have no color mixing knowledge, don't worry. A color wheel (available in the paint section of your local craft store) will become a very valuable tool in helping you decide what colors can be mixed together effectively (without coming up with some totally disgusting color that you hate).

Hope this has helped.

There are infinitely many colors, but unfortunately only a certain range can be translated into paint and fabric. So yes, it can seem limited, because we think of colors in groups. Pastel, bright... light, dark... black, white, neutral...smoky colors... When you decorate a room, you have only so many color directions to go in, and a lot of it is based on factors you can't control, like natural light.

yes i do , but since theres only one color wheel, and you end up right where you started, it aint gonna happen. did you know that there sre really only 3 colors--red blue and yellow? all other colors are made up of these 3 in different combinations and with either white or black added. white is an absence of color and black is an absence of light, they are not really colors at all.
