Yes, you signed a document before you came in and in it you promised to register for the Selective Service within six months of your arrival. The Selective Service is the organization that keeps records so that people can be called up for military service. Your information will be recorded and you may be called for military duty if the draft begins again. I went through the same process in 1964 and was drafted in 1965 and spent 1966 in VietNam. I was also, at that time, not a citizen.

It's just a registry of available men age 18 and over in case we start a draft. It does not mean you will be called up for service in case of a draft. There should be a place on the form for you to state that you are not a citizen, just a resident. It's smartest to comply.

Clueless does not even begin to describe how totally ignorant you are. The draft (SSS) ran from 1939 to 1973. This is the FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY of the draft coming to an end. The likelihood that the draft will EVER be reinstated is virtually zero. Have you been hiding in a hole somewhere for your entire 18 years? You deserve the following: **FACEPALM!!!"

The selective service is the agency that handles the draft when there is one. I am ineligible for the military due to medical problems, but I still had to sign up.

If you are male and 18 years of age you must sign up.What it means is you are now eligible to be drafted if there would happen to be another draft. The only reasons you can't be would be if you are medically unfit or can prove that serving in the military is against your religious beliefs.

Not enough details in your question to answer completely.

The Selective Service System has a website with detailed explanation of the "Who, what, when, where & why?" that you are asking about.

Yes you must by law sign up. It is what the military uses for the Draft. If you do not sign up you can go to prison. You WILL lose all eligibility for federal funding for your education.

wow, that's crazy. The US is letting you come to the US and be a resident alien... and the country is actually asking for something back? Oh my God.
