He is 10 years old and has been doing this for about a month now. Should I take him to the doctor or am I being paranoid?

If he does not stop, that could be a sign of Tourette syndrome instead of a throat problem. Throat clearing is a common Tourette tic. Has he or anyone else in family had a rapid eyeblinking habit? Does he have any of these other signs: ADHD, obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety? Does any of this run in family? Strattera, nonamphetamine, would be a good medicine to start with. But, maybe it is nothing but a leftover postnasal drip problem.

He might be just copying TV shows. Many important or high-class TV characters clear their throat constantly, and I know when I was a kid I loved to copy what I saw on TV. Just ask him why he does it, if anything is bothering him in his throat, and if he doesn't know why and isn't bothered, try telling him to stop. If he can't, you should get him checked by a doctor.

May it something of a habit. Like some people constantly blink their eyes. If you are really worried ask him to take up some home remedies. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. More details and home remedies available at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

It could just be a habit he got into or possibly he has post-nasal drip due to allergies or something. Have you asked him why keeps clearing his throat?

If he's not all phlegmmy from acold or something, it could be a nervous tic. Give him a bag of coughdrops to distract him from this habbit and see what happens

It could be just his sinus draining. I would take him to the doctor or could try to give him an allergy medication.

you might want to check him to see if there is anything small that is caught in his throat, small objects like chips, pretz, candy an so on .... can easily catch in the throat area
