This girl that i like is shy and i have been talking with her for about 5 months but i always have to prompt a conversation with her she never starts a conversation with me. She gave me her phone number and her im screen name and i talk to her on the phone. It just doesnt seem like she likes me. Should i be persistent or should i just give up?

Is your contact with her restricted to phone conversations? Have you ever asked her out? If not, please do.
Maybe she wants sex, but is too shy to ask. Many girls get tongue-tied when it comes to asking for it. Perhaps you should make your move.
Alternatively, tell her you'll be away for 3 days, and you'll return on, say, Thursday. Ask her to call you on Thursday night. If she does, you've got your answer. If she doesn't, you've got your answer.
And if she doesn't, don't call her back. You'd be wasting your time, and you'll post the same question after a week.

She might not think that highly of herself and think that you are just being nice. She might not know that you like her. If she didnt like you she wouldnt pick up the phone when you call and bother having a conversation. It is up to you to contnue with her or not. You might just have to tell her you want to continue or it will be the same.
