This is not cosmetic surgery... they normally have them done as puppies, but we did not get them done. Now he is starting to shake SO much that he causes the tips of his ears to bleed because they are so big.

Why on earth would you do that? The poor thing.

It is too old anyways.

This IS a cosmetic procedure and therefore is not a necessary one. Centuries ago, ear cropping, tail docking and removing dew claws were for preventative measures. Now, this is done for cosmetic purposes. There are no longer any scientifically proven reasons to crop ears. Today, ear cropping is a cosmetic surgery, pure and simple. The procedure should be done as early as possible: 6 weeks of age in the larger breeds and not past 9 weeks in the smaller ones. In a dog older than 16 weeks there is not only more pain but also more pain memory. Ear cartilage is for the most part set permanently by 4 months of age, so there is little latitude for bracing and training the cut ear to stand after surgery.

He is too old now.

Yes, cropping is cosmetic surgery. it is something that is done for the "look" and serves no medical purpose at all.

If your dog is shaking her head a lot you need to get her checked by a vet..it is possible she has an ear infection or other ear issue going on..it is also possible taht she has an allergy, especially if you are feeding her food taht contains corn, wheat or soy.

To answer your question yes it is too late to have her ears cropped. They have to be done by the time a puppy is 12 weeks old.

Boston Terriers do traditionally have their ears cropped. Many are now being shown with natural ears...the trend is leaning more and more to natural versus cropping.

It probably would have been better to have them done when he was a pup... Talk to your vet or some Boston Terrier breeders about it... See what they think.

Good luck... Hope you make the best decision for the dog! I'm not against ear cropping, but if you aren't going to show him, it probably isn't necessary if it will cause to much pain. Even in show dogs it is not required that they be cropped. Just FYI.

If your dog is shaking his head so much his ears bleed something is wrong. Go to the vet and check for an ear infection. NOW!!! You don't want to have to deal with a hematoma..... And cropping the ears while he shakes his head would just cause more bleeding and more mess for you to clean up.

Typically veteinarians do the ear crop procedure before the cartilage in the ears if fully formed/matured. Most vets (that will do this procedure) do it at about 3 months of age. Then, the ears have to be wrapped for a few months in order to "train" the ears into the correct shape as the cartilage matures and scarr tissue forms. You may have a hard time finding a vet to do this surgery in some cities. My best recommendation is to save your dog the intense pain that comes with ear cropping.

Personally I'm against cropping and it is definitely a cosmetic procedure. So as you can see, I'm prejudiced and IMO you should not have it done.

But the bigger question is: why is the dog shaking its head so violently that it's ears are bleeding and is this head shaking what's really causing the bleeding? Sounds like the dog has an ear infection. Violent head hsaking due to having floppy ears is not normal.

Now you can kill two birds with one stone. Take the dog to the vet to check to see if its ears are healthy and ask about the realities of having its ears cropped.

If your dog is shaking his head so much that the tips of his ears are bleeding, I would strongly recommend that he see his vet, he may be shaking his head because he has an ear infection. I would recommend a trip to his vet!!!!!

Yes it's to late..If you are going to do that it should be done febore they are a year old. However, Boston's aren't suppose to have their ears cut. Figure something else out. Talk to your vet...

it relatively is possibly showing worry, particularly then aggression. Have each and every guy or woman who's assembly the canine bend down and supply him treats- do no longer puppy till you're optimistic he won't bite. advantages him whilst he's performing calm. prepare him to "go away it". (attempt googling "coaching go away it") so as that after he is going for an ankle you are able to command him to flow away it.

Yeah, i'm sorry, but he's too old to have his ears done now. To have them done now would cause him a tremendous amount of pain.
