My 3 1/2 year old daughter has been on Glycolax for about 2 years for constipation. She is finally potty trained and has been having regular poops (every day or every other day) for nearly 3 months. Finally things seem to be working properly and I'd like to wean her off of the Glycolax. However, I've heard stories that it can be hard to get off of...painful.

I'd love to hear how other people have gotten their young children to come off of it without going back to withholding.

Thanks!

My daughter was on Miralax for 2 years and once I potty trained her, I just stopped giving it to her. She didn't seem to have a problem with it at all. Good luck!

My pediatrician put my son on Miralax because he was very constipated. It turns out that he is lactose intolerant. Once we put him on soy milk it really made a difference (his stools were softer and more regular starting the very next day). I would talk to a nutritionist and your doctor to help you get her off of it. I am surprised that they had her on that for so long.

I can't imagaine why a doc would put a child on something like that. any child that can't go can have a suppository on ocassion, but should be on more vegitables for constipation. As for the soy . Soy is a cancer causing agent. used as a fertilizer until the goverment decided they weren't making enough money that way with it. for lactocie intollerant. which I am. try pedisure for babies. and switch to nutrish milk for toddlers. And they will have to learn to live with it just as diabetics do. No ice cream. Yougurt is great though

the best thing to do would be to ask the doctor whom put your child on these meds, instead of a group of us well meaning people who arent doctors, just to be safe.
