I have tried different copies of the movie, including store bought and burned copies, but it won't play the sound for this specific movie only. Any ideas why that would be?

Did you try to switch the audio type? It might be an issue that your surround sound receiver doesn't support the standard it's using AC3 or DTS or Dolby. Try switching the audio to 2.1 stereo and see if your sound system likes it.
