I keep hearing people giving their opinions on the religious types and the non-religious types, saying that the other side's reasons for dispute are this, that and the other.
But do they ever sit down and think "Well, that's actually a pretty good argument, maybe I should do some research into it before I simply put them down out of sheer spite."
Quite simply, why do YOU assume you know what the other "side"'s agenda is?

"I don't have to know what the other sides agenda is, I know what the Bible says God's agenda is.
If there is a difference, then I believe that God is right."
Now that right there is what I mean. There is no room for argument with people like this, their minds are made up and nothing can change it. Seriously, I wonder why people like this come into a debate, it's obviously not to learn something...

"I've been a Christian/Jew/Muslim and I've since turned to paganism/atheism/satanism, therefore I am qualified to give an opinion that is experienced in all areas of belief or lack thereof."
Paraphrased but to the point. People who think like this need to stop thinking that they're something special just because they changed their mind mid-way. They don't know both sides of the argument entirely and certainly cannot begin to assume that they know the ins and outs of other's agendas.
This is another example of the types I mean.

In my case, though I am Pagan, I am familiar with the Evangelical Christian right because I worshipped at one of their churches (Assemblies of God) during my teens and most of my relatives still embrace that way of living and thinking. So my guesses are educated.
I'm learning more what atheists think because I'm married to one.
As for other religious ideas, I'm still learning, and I *try* not to make assumptions. I know I don't always succeed.

I am an Atheistic Satanist and was a Christian for most of my life, I think im qualified to criticize certain Atheistic, Satanic, and Christian beliefs as I can see what people of those beliefs are trying to say.
Im not like some people that have been a certain religion all my life and can only see and speak of things from one biased viewpoint (and then claim to be "open minded" and "tolerant").
On top of my religious conversion, my political philosphy has changed as well, I used to be a Liberal, then was a Conservative, but am now a Libertarian.

As a pagan, I've been a Christian, so I do know most of what the "other side" is thinking.
All the same, while I have changed religions, there are things that point to the possible truth of Christianity.
As for why Christians never say "Well, I don't agree, but I can see why that athiest/pagan believes that," they think it's a step backward in their faith to even conceed one point to the other side, something which will surely result in God's displeasure, and there for eternal damnation.

Father K You just proved his point...
I will listen and consider what everyone else has to say but I must make up my own mind. I do not like to be "forced" to believe something. That is a sign right there that it is not good.
..and what Gothic Shadow said. I was once a Christian too and trurned to paganism..

Because no matter the argument, people tend to believe that others think similarly, and we therefore impose our reality onto the reasoning of others.

when I hear the other side's argument, I reason with it and find the flaw before I move on. I do not trouble myself with their agenda, I could care less what they do with their lives. But when their's intercept's mine, THEN I CARE!

I agree with you! I like to think about things from different ankles, there is no way that someone here knows what I am thinking. : )
