Morpheus didnt exist, and yet he has a message of truth. The rest of the prophets may or may not have existed, and yet their message was untrue.

So if there really ever was a true Prophet, couldnt we say that Morpheus was the only true one? The first and last.

Now, dont go stalking Laurence Fishburne like some Jodi Foster fan, just try to follow me here. Morpheus was trying to free humanity from the enslavement of the Matrix...an artifical false construct that created an illusory dreamworld meant to keep humanity down. Isnt that religion?

Religion supresses human progress and feeds war. Some religions more than others, with Islam easily being the worst.

In the movie, the Matrix served the interests of robots but in real life, whose interests does the religionmatrix serve? The answer is complex. Religion can serve the interests of the state so as to keep the poor hopeful and the soldiers willing to die.

But religion also serves the weak (continued below)

Consider Islamic culture for example. Woman are essentially comodified. Like products in a warehouse, the merchants (men) control distribution based on exchange (arranged marriage or similar exchanges).

This serves the interest of the weak/insecure male. Scarcity creates the need for such religious systems. How else could one control such a commodity?

What product is their a higher demand for than woman? Religion created a way for the weak insecure male to better control this scarce resource as opposed to losing to the alpha male all the time.

I think you're overgeneralising religion. The moral concept has often been the deciding factor in which choose we take. What is right and wrong is a natural dilemma of being human. Even Satanists, who speak of how normal it is to do wrong, will talk about doing Evil as the 'right' thing to do. There is also a lot of wisdom included in Holy Books, as their writers have had to struggle with the notion of progress, war and sacrifice in especially barbaric times (for instance during the Dark Ages, the only way to get an education was to be born into the church).

Morpheus in the Matrix is an exploration on the topic transcendance. Sometimes this means being closer to God, sometimes this means further away. Remember that, if you really are an athiest, you have to settle with that God is a man-made invention, and that the illusion of God, is an illusion that perfectly rational people 'force' upon themselves.

Transcendance comes purely from the self. Don't include the masses - they are not worth it. They will not listen, and would never make sense of your interpretation if they did.

***funny how this was bang on the top of the page when I clicked the R&S tab!

edit: it's also interesting how Morpheus may be a prophet. Where does he come from, if he brings words of Enlightenment? I think we can shatter the illusions around us, and I think that it takes a hand on the other side to pull us through. It is not his words, but his direct action that brings us there, and I see the appeal there.

When you say "Morpheus", are you talking about yourself in the third person? Wisdom thinks that is silly.

And it is true, religion does sometimes enslave humanity. But there are certain things that are wrong. For instance, Islam was a religion that promoted scientific understanding. Only in 1992 did the Catholic chuch accept the heliocentric theory.

If you are trying to be like Morpheus and try to free people from the Matrix, you need to understand that you cannot just go an appeal to the masses. Morpheus, in the movie, only got a select few out of the Matrix. You are trying to get everyone out, including those who do not belong out.

Some of us like our steaks nice a juicy, myself included.

You are starting to disturb me in the same manner as a true believer. You seem to have thrown away your religion and worshipping and seem to have replaced it with worship for Darwin and the movie The Matrix. Both of which I myself am a fan, but I don't worshhip them.

People often cast off the security blanket that religion offers only to replace it with a substitute like science or... an idea proposed by an awesome movie.

These things are what they are. Leave it at that. No matter how awesome they are.

Matthew 3/1 In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Desert of Judea and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near." Mark 1/15 "The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!" Psalm 135/14 For the LORD will judge his people, and he will repent himself concerning his servants. there would be no need for a prophet because the Bible says those who are of Christ are prophets/priests/kings. Jesus was the final herald. the last two witnesses in the Bible are people who were already here once, moses and elijah. they will preach Christ. they will be saying to israel in the final days, repent.

Forgive me but I'm not a Matrix fan. Worst costume design of any movie ever made. Just my opinion but I can't vote for Morpheus.

How about electing Harry Potter to be the one true Prophet?

You know the words of truth live forever, the characters of fictitious movies can show an outline of truth but THEY can never be True prophets because the source of the words is NOT God. A true prophet is a messenger of God, who has originally talked to god and heard the message from the LORDs own lips.

I think maybe you've been thinking about this a little too hard. Try making love to a woman. Maybe that'll lax you up a little.

Is there going to be a test on this... If so, why don't you write a book about your opinions...
