A couple of days ago, my mom bought tostitos chips and salsa, which she never ever does. My family has already devoured the bag of chips, but we still have all this salsa left over. My extreme boredom a few days ago led me to eat a few big spoonfuls of salsa. It is the medium kind by Tostitos.
Is there any risk with eating it? It isn't like I eat giant bowl fulls of it, just a couple spoonfulls a day. It lights my mouth on fire, I like it! So what are the health benefits/issues with eating salsa plain?

And the ingredients look fine. Tomato puree, garlic powder, Jalepeno (can't spell) peppers....natural flavors.

Salsa is good for you! There are lots of diets out there that call for eating salsa as a topping alternative to mayonaise, etc. I suppose the long-term downside to eating too much salsa would be stomach irritation from too much acid, but a few spoonfuls here and there shouldn't hurt!

Eating salsa by itself is not very different from eating Gaspacho, which is a cold soup made with the same ingredients as salsa, but soupier.
Also, processed tomatoes are a great source of lycopene (cancer fighter), another bonus.
The only thing I can think of bad is that type of processed (not fresh) salsa has preservatives in it. But, heck, everything bottled and sold at the store does...so if you like it, eat it!

I don't see any difference between eating a small amount of salsa plain and eating a small amount of salsa on some chips. It's probably better for you! But try not to eat it every day ^^

The only downfall is that it might give you the runs lol. The benefits are that hot foods like that are good for killing germs and such in your system. A spoon of salsa a day, keeps the doctor away!!

What is salsa made of, tomatoe, onions, pepper, garlic mostly vegetables. Other than the salt content which is probably very high, you were actually doing yourself good because of the vegetable content. I could think of worse things that you could be eating.

Salsa is full of antioxidants and has less calories than mayo based salad dressings. Moderation is the key to enjoying most things in life. I've used it as such - on eggs, dipping for chicken strips, salad dressing, etc.

You can't eat salsa plain. Salsa is never plain.
I once ate a suicide burrito at El Torito. It looked plain from the outside, but a burrito is never plain, especially not this one.

Well it would speed up your metabolism, since spicy foods usually speed up the metabolic rate. Your stomach might now agree with your eating salsa plain.

Too much acid gives me mouth ulcers. I have to limit tomatoes as well as salsa even though I love it. If it doesn't bother you, go for it. It is usually low carb and usally low calorie, too.
