A similar complaint could be leveled at the religious:
Why do believers confuse perfectly explainable thought/emotion events with an external supernatural being?
Spiritual experiences are no more born from a supernatural event than is the experience of a beautiful sunrise. The appreciation comes from the interpretation we make within, a simple thought collection. The only thing that's really happening is the earth is continuing to rotate.
EDIT: Hayden: Didn't you just do the same thing you accused Mr. Spock of doing?

One man's "spiritual concept" is another man's pastrami sandwich on rye with spicy brown mustard before bedtime. The bottom line is that our senses often lie to us for a plethora of reasons.
Perhaps I am incapable of having a spiritual experience because my senses are too rooted in this reality. When I do have one, I'll be sure to log on and let everyone here know.

a spiritual concept is a human experience for which they have chosen a irrational explanation, or one that doesn't explain why it happens or the process but merely attributes it to the supernatural world. The spiritual by claiming itself apart from the natural world avoids attempts of reason and proof and hence is akin to religion.

It could be because atheists do not beleive in spiritual concepts or religious dogma. Why would they care about either one?

The atheists here are not particularly interested in a sympathetic and insightful study of spirituality.

Why do Christians insist on lumping all atheists together, as if they were actually a cohesive group?

Because spiritualism is crap. You can interpret human experiences however you want, but there's no 'magic' in it.
