I don't believe in either.
No, you are not wrong. You're just making up your own God, like everyone else who believes in one.

Interesting question. Where does your notion of God come from? God reveals, man observes.
If you think you can observe God, consider how Genesis describes God: God who existed before He created everything you can observe. God exist in the observable and the unobservable. Science can only deal with what man observes.
So where does your notion of God comes from? If you are an American, it most likely comes from the American Civil Religion. Although Congress can not promoted any denomination, the American people can share similar beliefs. So where does the American Civil Religion comes from, the Puritans or Pilgrims.
So when you hear a president say "God bless American", he is using the God of the American Civil Religion. But where did the Puritans get their notion of God: The bible.
Even if you never read a page, you will find the bible (like Shakespeare) is one of our cornerstone of what we believe and who we are.
Answer: Yes you can believe in God and not believe in the bible just as long as you know where the notion of God comes from.

I believe in "God" (if you will), spirit, a universal energy that governs all things. There are most likely many stories in the bible that may have been based on and inspired by true events. These stories can serve as inspiration and to teach life lessons.
I will also argue that the bible has bias because is was not only written by "man", specific books were chosen by man to be included, and it has been translated by men many, many times. A literal interpretation on the bible is not wise.

Absolutely - the "god" I believe in has nothing to do with the Judeo / Christian / Islamic books or any other for that matter. I can't put my finger on it but I seem to think that it is something we humans are genetically coded to accept. I don't think for a second that ther is anything in my genetics telling me to believe the man made crud in the bible. Humans from every corner of the earth have similar creation fables and whether they believe in one god or many the main theme is basically the same - be good, do good. The main theme in man's "religion" is my god is better than your god so die you evil bastard die.
That is my opinion on that.
And along come the Christian crusaders to add a thumbs down to every truly logical answer. How un - intelligent is the response that "it is god's word in the bible and jesus saves and there is nothing but god's true word written by god's hand in the holy book and you don't believe it you will burn...what a load of brainwashing!

Yep! Right here! The bible makes no sense to me, but after a short stint as an Atheist, then an Agnostic, I've come to the conclusion that there is some sort of divine entity (I have trouble calling it God, because of the Judeo-Christian connotations to the term.) Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I also don't think that you have to be a Christian, Jew, or Muslim in order to believe in 1 divine being. There are many faiths out there, pick the one that's right for you. Or, hell, make up your own, that's basically what I've done.

Oh, yes. There are many of us. God is entirely independent of the Bible.
Millions of pople even believe in *multiple* deities. Once you release a belief in the Bible, many possibilities arise for a new view of the divine.
Isn't it amazing, though, how the Christians have convinced so many people in our culture that if you believe in a deity, it has to be the one described in the Bible? Congratulations on giving careful thought to your spiritual beliefs. It's too bad more people don't do so.

I believe the Bible is a human text, that it contains moral and factual error. And I believe in God. Those two beliefs are shared by almost all mainline Protestants.

Quite a few people do. I have a friend that does. He sees no reason to believe what the Bible says, but he is still a theist.

Well the bible isnt technically writen by man because when the bible was being writen god was telling the writers what to write in it. It is also a recount of actual advents where God was speaking to people and when Jesus was alive. So really if u think about it the bible WAS written by God, not by man, man was more of a way for God to get his message to the people.

I believe that way. A belief in "God" does not equate "Christianity". Many religions believe in a "God" or "Gods" and have nothing to do with Christianity. I do not personally believe the Bible to be valid.

How will you ever know what God commands? from another man's mouth? most men, about 90% or so will deceive you using scripture. Its best for you to read what God commands of you because your not going to find out any other way. Man wrote the bible through God's instruction. It was not man's inspiration. though Paul may have had a few personal opinions.
