Unfortunately many people who are angry and intolerant latch onto Christianity not for the religion but to use it as platform for their personal agenda. Christianity is not the problem, people who twist it to their will are. I must say that I used to do this back before i was interested in knowing the truth, now i see hypocrisy in myself daily and I strive to eliminate it. Also of interest I do not consider myself to be a Christian but there is nothing wrong with being a Christian as well.

Wishful thinking? Maybe because of the scare tactics? You know, believe or go to hell? And if you look back throughout history it has NEVER been a religion of peace, acceptance & love that it claims to be. And there are some who do actually follow the peace acceptance & love in principle.

Christianity is not just about the things you mentioned. God is also a god of war. Many times in the old testament He instructed His people to go and kill every man woman and child. I agree with you that there are many ignorant people that claim to be Christians, but they speak for themselves, not all Christians.

That's something I've always wondered myself. I was raised Episcopalian and still am. Tolerance and acceptance were always stressed. Perhaps some people aren't secure in their beliefs so they attack anyone who could be seen to present a challenge i.e. another religion, an atheist, or even a different interpretation of the Bible. I've never really understood those people.

Christianity is a religion of TRUTH, not peace. When you deny the truth just to keep peace, you are a liar, not a Christian.
Many "religions" have chosen "tolerance" for things clearly abolished by God - homosexuality, for example. It ain't never gonna be OK....period. Zero tolerance = hold fast to what is True and Good.
But who really wants the truth when it doesn't "feel good"? The Bible is packed with painful truths....then again, maybe you would prefer to live your life believing what man says, instead of what God says.....that is your legal right to do so.
Me? I would give my life for the Truth.

Good question. There are so many angry and intolerant liberals, atheists, and agnostics who have been attracted to Christianity in their attempts to disprove it. If they would only stop for a second and realize the message of peace, acceptance, and love are for them too, not just for those who choose to believe.

Actually, what happens is this: Some people get so wrapped up in the little details, they forget about the big message. Instead of love, these people become angry and intolerant.

Because many christians are sectaric individuals, adhering to narrowmindedness and dogma, fixed believes.
Anything opposing their fixed idea's gets them angry and intolerant.
Instead they will try to convert you, save you, convince you that you are a sinner.
True Christianity is when individuals preserve their logical mind open to new spiritual idea's, but remain true to the principles of the Christ, unconditional love, BEYOND any dogma!

Christ suffered great persecution, judgement, and pain. We can expect no less as followers of Him. For His own recieved Him not, so how can we expect them to accept us? We can't, it is that simple. The Word even tells us that a prophet is not accepted in his own city.
I do hope we can reach people by sharing with them, but sometimes we will get negative results no matter how we approach people. Love sometimes is simply given, and nothing comes in return by man, but we will recieve our reward in Heaven.

People look for band-aides to fix problems in their life that have caused them suffering... religion happens to be one in which many people seek happiness and freedom from suffering... trouble is that many people who dip into religions usually do it from their own perspectives, ego, etc. They usually hunt down people who are like-minded thinkers, who subscribe to a path of thinking very similar to their own and settle happily among them.
Ego and self-cherisment are the root causes of suffering due to incorrect thinking. People believe that once they have found their personal "correct view" that theirs is the only one and NOW they have support... a bunch of "like-minded" thinkers to support their every view. It empowers them and they feel it's their duty spread their own viewpoint as being the only correct one.
If a religion tolerates and empowers dualistic thinking, such as man removed from the environment, with no responsibility to anything or attributing everything to some other power (i.e. creator god or demons) instead of looking for a solution within and fixing the problem from within... they're empowered even more. It becomes a FEEDING GROUND for such thinking and feeds the "monster" so to speak.
