The key word is "illegal". Illegals forge documents to become "illegal" citizens. They make up fake identities or worse yet steal yours! If an United States citizen would make up or steal an identity, they would surely be facing some serious prison time.
So why should our country let illegal immigrants who forge documents become citizens All laws apply to all people , you break the law you pay the price. In all honestly they should be shortly imprisoned then deported. The U.S. should keep finger prints on file for all deportees, and never allow them back in this country again, second offense try lengthly imprisonment. My family immigrated here from Sicily back in the 1800's, they came here legally, they took an oath and declaration to the United States, they didn't forge illegal documents! People enter this country every day with legal status, they file the proper documents, and yes there is a waitng period, but they are law abiding people, so they wait. I use to live in Arizona about 45min from the boarder, my wallet was stolen and so was my identity. The person using my SS# was an"illegal" from Mexico. You can only imagine the hell I went through. Some local Alderman here in Chicago, claim illegal workers are paying into SS and paying taxes, and they do not file a tax return therefore the Govt keeps the money, and for this they should become citizens. You don't have to prove citizenship to apply for public aid, food stamps, medical cards. Do you know how many illegal citizens abuse these programs? America needs to wake up and push our Govt for tighter borders. How do you think some of these terrorist entered our country ILLEGALLY, should we let them out of prison and give them citizenship? The U.S. is a melting pot of legal immigrants, not "illegal" immigrants Those same Aldermen Claim that the "illegals" are only taking jobs U.S. citizens refuse to do, this is not true! How can an Union scale brick layer compete with a handful of "illegals" willing to to the job for a fraction of the cost. The union worker has dues, codes to follow, and numerous overhead, workmans comp, etc. The "illegal" worker will work for less than min. wages. How can an American compete with that ? Anyone wishing to immigrate to the U.S. you have my Blessings. This is a beautiful place to live, I wish you all wealth and good health, just please do it LEGALLY!

On one hand, the reactionary part of me yells that they're breaking the law, insulting the dignity of our borders, and they're taking advantage of our extremely overloaded immigration system, and they should be expelled because of it. Motives notwithstanding, illegal immigrants are just that......illegal. They want to come here to take advantage of our higher standard of living, and they, in turn, get taken advantage of by unscrupulous people who pay them pennies a day for hard labor. I have no problem with someone who wants to move here in an attempt to better themself, but it makes me wonder if they're really bettering themself by breaking the law and endangering their security.

That being said, however, I can take the role of the other and place myself in their shoes. And, honestly, if I were in their shoes, it would be tempting to leave whatever poor country I was in (assuming I was in a poor country) and come to the US by any means I could find. However, unless the circumstance were incredibly extenuating, ie. I or my family was starving, I don't think I could bring myself to be so disrespectful.

In any case, I did find the immigration marches that happened last year in California to be pretty ridiculous, and very close to a slap in the face. Sure, illegals may comprise a big part of the economy out there, and they may do the crap jobs that nobody else wants, but to march in the streets and demand equal rights when they're not even citizens? I think not. If someone comes here illegally, then they need to be prepared to accept whatever they get and be grateful for it.

That's not really a straight answer, but then again, it's not really a black and white issue.

I am afraid to say this, but the world is full of illegal immigrants and no Government has the power to do anything about it.

They are too many and too poor. Our schools and services are failing. A hundred thousand we overlooked. Three million we gave amnesty to - only to see many of those who got amnesty become anchors for more to come illegally. This is too many. It has to stop. WE as a country have the right to say how many and who can come in. This is ridiculous.

I like everyone as long as they are cool people. I don't care where they are from. Treat others as you would want to be treated. I like to learn about different cultures.

Just like globalization; it is a natural sociological phenomenon, something unstoppable, whether we like it or not. It just happens and NOTHING can stop it.
