im kinda in the same mode even if you know about weddings its not easy... it can all be overwhelming so i would recommend a couple of things.
1. Go to some local bridal shows get a feel of local vendors/prices and get some great ideas you also get some great one on one time with vendors and you can take all the brochures home to mull over
2. SET A BUDGET this will help so much you can easily eliminate vendors that are to expensive and narrow down your choice cause trust me there are tons out there
3. Surf the web for some colours/themes that you would like to have try theknot.com, theweddingchannel.com both are awesome sites
4. Book your hall 1st that will help set a tone for your whole wedding decide where you want your ceremony and coordinate booking the two after that you book your specific vendors photo/videography, cake, invitations, flowers, dresses, tuxes, limo, thank you gifts, dj etc.
5. if you find it all overwhelming you can hire a coordinator they offer different levels of service such as complete wedding froma-z or partial planning most are very flexible and some a reasonably priced. Dont forget to get EVERYTHING in writing from everyone i can't stress that enough and ask for references from your vendors you can speak to other couples who have used this vendors service and they can give you a candid opinion.
Hope that helps and best of luck to you!

First of all CHILL! Set down and figure out what would be nice to you. I had a candlelight wedding at my church and it turned out beautiful. I never had any part of a wedding either. We set the candles on mirrors so that you get better lighting. Very simple very cheap. For the reception we used small margarita glasses filled them with colored water and put floating candles in them. We used cheap table clothes and put glitter and confetti on them. It all was so gorgeous. Turned out better than you could ever imagine. As for food we served meatballs, pigsinablanket, fruit salad and chips and dip, and veggie tray. It all went over very well.We had around $3,000 in our whole wedding.

If you dont know where to start and dont want to hire a wedding planner, i recommend "Easy Wedding Planner - Organizer & Keepsake" by WeddingSolutions.com (its an actual book though). You can find it at your bookstore and it has EVERYTHING you need to think about.
