I am returning to school soon, and I was curious about financial aid. I am 4 years into my bankruptcy, and am wondering if I will be able to recieve aid for school. I don't know if I can get pell grants, because they might assume that I made too much money last year. I'm afraid that I can't get a private loan, unless someone co signs for me. How much do you have to actually make in order to recieve aid?

Right now, I am not working. I am going to nursing school, and will only be able to work part time. Also, the school is only for a year.

You can still get student loans even if you are in bankruptcy. These are federal student loans and not private ones. I was in bankruptcy also and made too much money. I was able to qualify and get about 6,000 or so per semester. The goverment guarantees these loans and that is why lenders are willing to give them to you. Private loans are harder if not impossible to get when you are in bankruptcy.

I don't know about grants but I think you can still get them as long as you meet the "financial need" requirements...I do know that you can still get regular subsidized and unsubsidized loans because I still get them and I filed bankruptcy only a year ago but I have not found a bank that will give me a student loan without a co-signer.

I have filed bnk. twice and I still qualify for pell and loans (not private.. they are based on credit).. It will depend on a lof of factors.. ur EFC 3, cost of attendance, etc.. Just apply and see what they tell u but bank. has no effect on student aid. THANK GOD
