If you have more than one cat in the household, sometime the alpha cat will not cover up because she expects the other cats to do it for her/him. It is a territorial thing. If you don't have any other cats, then try putting more litter in the box than you are now.

Yes, it might be that her litter box is dirty....

My cat also used to do that if her box was dirty as well... But if that's not the case, then she might be lazy like someone else said. However, if it is clean, then I would really encourage her to go back to her litter box immediately after she has finished (especially if you see her) and get her to sniff... gently talk to the cat... She will realize it is hers and should go and cover it up- my cat did when he also had this same problem. I would recommend doing this after every time you see her do it just to make sure she doesn't break the habit of covering it up!

Hope this helps!! Good luck!

)Sometimes my male cat covers and sometimes he doesn't It has nothing to do with having a dirty box,as mine are cleaned almost as soon as they are used. . I have 2 cats and I have 4 litter boxes(2 upstairs and 2 in the basement.) You should always have at least 1 more litter box than you have cats. I really can't answer your question, except to say,be glad he uses the box. I just scoop it out ,covered or uncovered.

She probably wants a cleaner litterbox. I scoop the litterbox several times a day and make sure it is clean. Mine don't understand the concept of burying anything...so it isn't surprising. She may be going through a change though. What is going on there? Is someone or something disrupting her when she is using it? Have you yelled at her while in the box? They do not respond well to that at all. They need privacy and clean clean litter just as a person does.

She may not like the feel of the litter on her pads. See if it is coarse and grainy or soft. Sometimes changing to a different texture solves the problem.
On the other hand she may just want to share the odor.

If your litter is clean...try putting the litter deeper in the pan, cats love deep litter to hide there movements in and if she steps into a nice deep fresh litter this would encourage her to bury it deeper.....

Is it possible you haven't been cleaning out the cat box regularly?....maybe the clay has gotten too dirty and she doesn't want to dig in it....You might need to do a complete change more often.

Is her litter box clean?

Maybe she doesn't want to dig if it is dirty.
