My mother had surgery this past July to remove a bone fusion from one of her feet as well as to amputate a toe. It didn't seem to be healing properly and she began to get small blisters on her foot (near the incision) as well as on her palms and even had a few on her face. Her doctor told her she had a staph infection and prescribed antibiotics and 3 weeks of steroids...now she continues to have the symptoms. Her palms and fingers are covered in itchy, cracking, and oozing blisters. She also has a sore in her nose that won't go away. She's a very tiny woman (about 5'3" 100 lbs.) and has a number of other health problems including several issues with her heart. So, this worries me to an extent...she's been told before that if she ever suffered from a serious infection she could very well not survive it. Could any of this be symptoms of a staph infection that was just never treated properly? Any help would be much appreciated.

Staphylococcus aureus is probably the bacteria that is causing the problem. They need to do a culture to verify that and find out what kind of anti-biotic will work since Staph aureus can be a tricky bug to get rid of. It can dodge the body's defenses and can be resistant to certain anti-biotics.

It also can spread very fast. And that is why they need to get her on some stronger anti-biotics.
